A day of adventure at the Casuhatí Lookout - Ernesto Tornquist Provincial Park, Sierra de la Ventana / Un día de aventutras en el Mirador del Casuhatí - Parque Provincial Ernesto Tornquist, Sierra de la Ventana

The city where we live, Bahía Blanca, has no tourist attractions other than a few parks and a fairly beautiful and interesting architectural center, but it lacks places within the city itself to spend time surrounded by nature.

It has two fairly large parks, but with the Dana storm of December 2023 and the floods of March 7, they are in poor condition in terms of safety, so enjoying the outdoors requires traveling.

Although the city has no tourist attractions, we are fortunate to have the mountains and the ocean within a radius of just 120 kilometers.

This Easter weekend, I was alone with my daughters, and we were quite active, enjoying various outdoor activities and having beautiful moments. On Saturday after lunch, I asked my daughters what they would like to do, and the youngest told me she would like to go rock climbing in the mountains.

La ciudad donde vivimos, Bahía Blanca, no tiene atractivos turísticos más que algunos parques y un casco arquitectónico bastante bonito e interesante, pero carece de sitios dentro de la misma ciudad para pasar en medio de la naturaleza.

Tiene dos parque bastante grandes pero con la Dana de diciembre del 2023 y las inundaciones del 7 de marzo pasado están en malas condiciones respecto a la seguridad por lo cual para poder disfrutar del aire libre es necesario desplazarse.

Si bien la ciudad no tiene atractivos turísticos tenemos la suerte de tener en un radio de apenas 120 kilómetros las sierras y el mar.

Este fin de semana de Pascuas, estuve solo con mis hijas y anduvimos bastante activos disfrutando de varias actividades al aire libre y disfrutando de hermoso momentos. El sábado después del almuerzo le pregunté a mis hijas que les gustaría hacer y la más pequeña me dijo que le gustaría ir a escalar a las sierras.

As soon as we finished lunch, we got ready, grabbed some crackers, fruit, water, our mate equipment, and a coat, and set off for Sierra de la Ventana, a beautiful place just an hour and a half from our home in search of more adventure.

The trip was fairly peaceful, although I didn't realize that due to the Easter holiday, we were going to find a lot of people, and that's exactly what happened.

After traveling 40 kilometers along the mountain road, we arrived at Ernesto Tornquist Provincial Park, home to the hill that gives this tourist village its name. One of the hills has a hole in its summit, resembling a window, hence the name of this town.

Very close to the park entrance, there is a viewpoint on the side of the road that is very popular for taking the typical photo with Cerro Ventana in the background.

Ni bien terminamos de almorzar, nos preparamos, tomamos unas galletas, fruta, agua, el equipo de mate, abrigo, y emprendimos el viaje hacia Sierra de la Ventana, un lugar bellísimo a apenas una hora y media de viaje de nuestra casa en busca de una más aventuras.

El viaje fue bastante tranquilo aunque no recordé que a causa del feriado de Pascuas íbamos a encontrar mucha gente y así fue.

Después de recorres uno 40 kilómetros por el camino serrano llegamos al Parque Provincial Ernesto Tornquist, donde se encuentra el cerro que da nombre a esta Villa turística por la particularidad de uno de los cerros que tiene un hueco en su cima, que parece una ventana, de allí el nombre de esta ciudad.

Muy cerquita de la entrada del parque hay un mirador sobre el margen de la ruta que es muy concurrido para sacar la típica foto con El Cerro Ventana de fondo.

Right in front of this viewpoint, there is a trail with a gradient of approximately 100 meters called Mirador del Casuhatí. It's a trail about 500 meters long that climbs a hill from which you can enjoy incredible panoramic views. In September and October, the landscape is much more picturesque, as many plants and shrubs bloom during this time, filling the landscape with life and joy.

As soon as we arrived, we decided to load our backpacks with food, water, and our cameras to begin the ascent.

The first few meters are fairly easy, not too steep, but you have to be very careful because the trail is full of rocks that pose a danger if you fall. For this reason, although I gave my youngest daughter some freedom, I had to follow closely behind to avoid accidents. A simple fall could mean a serious cut, with the complications that this would entail.

As we progressed along the trail, the climb became steeper and more difficult, especially for my youngest daughter, but she still wanted to try to climb alone, and I respected her decision, helping her when things got complicated.

Justo frente a este mirador hay un sendero con un desnivel de aproximadamente 100 metros llamado Mirador del Casuhatí. Es un sendero de unos 500 metros de extensión donde se asciende a un cerro de donde se logran vistas panorámicas increíbles. En el mes de septiembre, octubre el paisaje es mucho más pintoresco ya que en esa época florecen muchas plantas y arbustos llenando el paisaje de vida y alegría.

Ni bien llegamos al sitio decidimos cargamos nuestras mochilas con comida, agua y la cámara para comenzar el ascenso.

Los primeros metros son bastante tranquilos, sin mucha pendiente, pero hay que ir con mucho cuidado porque el sendero está lleno de piedras que son un peligro si uno se cae. Por esta razón si bien le dí cierta libertad a mi hija más pequeña tenía que seguirla bien de cerquita para evitar accidentes. Una simple caída podía significar un corte importante con las complicaciones que ello implicaría.

A medida que fuimos avanzando en el sendero el ascenso se ponía más empinado y se complicaba sobre todo a mi hija más pequeña, pero aún así ella quería intentar subir sola y yo respeté su decisión ayudándola cuando se complicaba.

After a 40-minute hike, we were able to climb to the lookout point and admire the beautiful landscape and a clearer view of Cerro Ventana. From up there, you have a privileged panoramic view of the entire area.

Once we reached the lookout point, we settled in for a meal and hydrated to regain our energy. At the same time, we rested and filled our lungs with fresh air and the beautiful scent of nature.

We took the opportunity to take some photos to immortalize the afternoon, and after a pleasant time, we began the descent, which was much more challenging than the climb.

I gave the little ones some instructions on how to keep their center of gravity low so they were closer to the ground in case they tripped, minimizing the risk of rolling down the hill.

Después de 40 minutos de caminata pudimos subir al mirador y contemplar desde allí el hermoso paisaje y ver con mayor claridad el Cerro Ventana. Desde allí arriba se tiene una vista panorámica privilegiada de todo el sector.

Una vez que llegamos al mirador nos dispusimos a comer y a hidratarnos para recuperar energías. Al mismo tiempo descansábamos y llenábamos nuestros pulmones de aire puro y de ese olor a naturaleza tan lindo.

Aprovechamos para tomarnos algunas fotos para inmortalizar aquella tarde y después de haber pasado un lindo momento comenzamos a descender, lo cual fue mucho más complicado que la subida.

Le di algunas indicaciones a las pequeñas para que mantengan bajo su centro de gravedad para así estar más cerca del suelo en caso de algún tropiezo, minimizando el riesgo de bajar rodando el cerro.

Once we finished the descent, we went for a walk through a beautiful forest with the intention of going to a stream, and then starting the return trip home.

During these four hours of adventure through the mountains, we not only enjoyed the physical activity, but also shared wonderful moments and disconnected, even if only for a moment, from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Happy and somewhat tired, we began the journey back to our city.

Una vez que terminamos el descenso nos fuimos a caminar por un hermoso bosque con intensiones de ir hasta un arroyo, para después si comenzar el regreso a nuestro hogar.

En estas cuatro horas de aventuras que estuvimos paseando por las sierras disfrutamos no solo de la actividad física, sino también compartimos momentos maravillosos y nos desconectamos aunque tan solo sea por un rato del alboroto de la ciudad.

Contentos y algo cansados emprendimos el viaje de regreso a nuestra ciudad.
