Namaste š
Hope you all are doing great!
Here we were going on another trip, but this time to the upper himalayan regions of Himachal Pradesh. Today, Iām gonna take you guys along with me really popular tourist destination and an engineering marvel that is situated near Manali. Today, Iām gonna take you guys to the world, famous Atal Tunnel.
So we started our journey at around 11 AM in the morning from my home. That is 15 km before Manali. It was a really good day today with no clouds and a really beautiful looking skyline. We were going on another adventure about which you will be getting to know in upcoming blogs.
This time we wanted to explore the cold deserts of the Spiti region and to reach there we had to cross this magnificent engineering Marvel that is above 10,000 feet and is more than 9 km long.
The journey till the tunnel took around an hour from my house. It was quite a busy day. Traffic wise, as a lot of people were travelling to the upper regions of Himalayas to explore the magnificent beauty that Himalayas have to offer in the month of October.
This road is managed by BRO border Road organisation of India, and this is a very strategic and important in the security aspect as well as it connects a lot of border regions.
Because of that, only the condition of the road is quite good as you can see in the photographs below. There were a couple spots where the road was damaged because of rain, but other than that it was quite good.
Atal tunnel was built to shorten the distance to reach to the La and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh from Kullu district in less than 15 to 20 minutes before the tunnel was built. This distance was more than 5 hours long journey crossing Rohtang Pass.
We also witnessed a lot of bike riders and fellow travellers along the way. It was a really good time of the year to explore the Himalayas as there is a very less chance of rainfall and snowfall during this time and the peaks are also visible to a good distance, as there is no pollution at all.
So here we were near to the hotel tunnel, considering the tourist importance and also the significance of security of this tunnel. This is a really famous spot for capturing the photographs so there were a lot of vehicles stopping by to capture the photograph in front of the tunnel.
This was the South portal of the tunnel that was towards the Kullu side. We did not capture a lot of photographs as we were in a hurry to reach our destination that was really far away, and all I captured were photographs from inside only that you can see the blog.
There are a lot of high mountains around the tunnel from friendship peak to Hanuman. Tibba are both more than 5000 m above sea level. These are one of the highest mountains of the Dhauladhar range of Himalayas.
Now in the photograph, you can see the north portal of the tunnel, which opened up towards Lahol and Spiti side. The vegetation changed dramatically here as we gained a lot of elevation from the tunnel. It was a completely different story on the other side of the portal. It was indeed a portal to heaven.
We took a right turn from the northern portal of the tunnel because we wanted to go to the Spiti side of the valley. I will be continuing my journey in the next blogs that is it for today. I hope you like this one, and I hope to see you in the next one.
