Yesterday we went to Mijas Pueblo with my friends to enjoy the views and the Christmas lights. To our surprise, just 500 metres of altitude made the air very cold and crisp already at 5 p.m., and it only got colder as the sun went down.
This year, Mijas has decided to create a Christmas light spectacle in the same spirit as Málaga, and it was genuinely cute. Honestly, it was even better than what I’ve seen in Málaga in previous years. I really hope more people make the trip up there to see it, because it was a lovely experience overall. Flashing lights combined with Christmas music filled the streets with energy, mixing Spanish and English songs in a way that felt joyful rather than overwhelming.
The town itself is tiny, a beautifully traditional Andalusian village. I’ve actually been avoiding it for a long time because it’s usually very touristic, but thanks to winter and the cold weather, there weren’t many tourists around. That made the whole visit surprisingly pleasant.
Since the last time I was there, Mijas has clearly taken big steps to improve itself. The gift shops are charming, with lots of handmade items, the town is extremely clean, and the freshly painted houses made everything feel bright and well cared for. All in all, it was a very, very pleasant four hours spent there.
