Hi everyone π
My greetings to all of the fellow travellers who love to visit far away places. Today I am going to share an amazing piece of ancient architecture in India.
This temple is known as SahasraBaahu temple and it is located in Gwalior fort in Gwalior (India) . It was built in 1093 by king Mahipala of kachachhapaghata dynasty.
This temple was basically devoted to Lord vishnu who is also known as the name SahasraBaahu (The one with thousand arms). With the passage of time the name was diluted and these days the temples are known with the name of Saas Bahu temple.
This is a pair of temple, built in same style with the same material side by side. The first one is bigger in size and is known as Saas temple while the other smaller one is Bahu temple.
These temples special the first one is all covered with beautiful carvings. Though most of the carvings have been defaced and broken due to various attacks of invaders but still they attract the tourists with their amazing beauty.
(This is the view from the main entrance. The smaller temple is also visible in this pic.)
Now let us start from the first one commonly known as Saas temple.
The Sas temple has a square sanctum with three entrances to the temple. This seemed like a three storeyed building, with no space left where there are no carvings Or designs have been made. The temple was totally in ruins after many invasions, it was restored by Archeological department during Britishers rule in India.
This is the main entrance of the temple. You may see the beautiful carvings at the entrance. The carvings include Hindu deities, and other characters from Hindu mythological stories.
The temple has three entrance door, at the fourth side is a closed chamber.

(Carving on another pillar)
(Central part or the sanctum of the temple where the idols were kept for worshipping. As the temple was invaded and broken so now no idols for worshipping in the temple. These four pillars of sanctum just look amazing.)
(Innermost chamber. It was full of bats. I don't know why Archeological department is not taking care of it.)
(Carvings on the top of the entrance of innermost chamber.)

Now going to the smaller one commonly known as Bahu temple
This temple seems like a smaller version of the saas temple with less sophistication. This too has a square sanctum with four pillars, and multiple entrances. Just like the other temple most of the carvings here too have been defaced and mutilated.

(Carvings of girls on the top pf the pillars, as if they are taking all load of roof of upon them.)

That's all for now π
Thank you dear ones
