Hello.
I'm traveler

10th day
I'm goint to introduce you many villages on the Snæfells Peninsular, western region of Iceland.
The last night, because of the rain and wind, I shuddered and ate instant spagetti, but the next morning I woke up from the tent and it was a very sunny day.
The French man and his son visited to Iceland for short period, so they had to go to the airport to catch a plane.
This camping site, Arnarstapi, was one of the most visited villages on the Snæfells Peninsular. It is famous for its beautiful natural environment, so it seems that not only tourists but also locals visit here a lot.
Especially, it seems like a many people come to see the natural arched rock created by the strong waves hitting the shore.
I'm not the one who is pressed for time in such a nice place. Let's spread the mat and enjoy breakfast. Then I open a can of beer that I saved for dessert. Drinking from the morning is good with nice weather and view.
Lie down for a couple of hours until I'm sober, then try hitchhiking, move to the neighborhood, meeting good people.
"Where shall we go?"
The hitchhiking driver choosed where I was going. Let's catch a car and get on! We're going anywhere in the driver's direction.
'Hellissandur' is a very popular town. Actually, I stopped by the night before. Unfortunately, the rain and wind were so severe that I could only remember the gray view of village, but it is one of the places where many tourists visit.
In Iceland, you can meet sheep or goats on the road like this. Sometimes they blocked the road.
The next car was a camping car. It was also comfortable. There was a gas station where they dropped me off, and there was a cafe next to it.
I took out another instant pasta I bought before. And I went to the cafe and asked, "Could I buy a cup of hot water?" And a friendly Icelandic employee just boiled it for me. I could easily eat warm food like this.
In fact, I had a plan for schedule, and I wanted to visit one of the most popular destinations on the Snippel Peninsula, 'Grundarfjörður' and the harbour town which connectw with north, 'Stickykishólmur'.
Let's go to 'Stickykishólmur, which is farther between the two places. Luckily, the driver was heading there.
The driver recommended that visit this place because it has a special museum. It was the lava museum. It is not found in other villages or cities, and there are many things that can be seen through a lot of data.
Unfortunately, I arrived late at closing time. It was open from 11 a.m. to 17 p.m. and there was an admission fee. The lava museum costs 1,000 kronees (about 8.5 USD) and the library of water costs 500 krones (4 USD). And admission is free for those under 18.
This town wasn't that big and peaceful. There was a typical harbour village.
Next, let's try to go to 'Grundarfjörður'. The reason why this place is famous, was because there is a mountain a short distance from the village where you can see a horizontal fault and the mountain where the sun is shining has become famous. I have seen the picture on Google Maps, and it made me wanted to go there.
There were many kind Icelandic people on the way.
Can you see the mountain with the rising fault next to the village? Unfortunately, the day I went there was a bit of a bummer because it was cloudy in the evening. When the day is bright, the horizontal fault on the mountain clearly shows off its charm.
It's not a mountain next to the village, but the fault is similar to this. It's close to the summit, and you can see the fault horizontally. It would be great if you go on a fine day!!
On this day, I actually got out of the Snæfells Peninsular and arrived in Borgarnes, a major street town that connects to the capital, 'Reykjavik', in the evening.
But all of a sudden, I thought of a crater in 'Myvatn', a hot spring city in northern Iceland, and I felt like I would regret it if I didn't engrave my name there.
So I hitchhiked back to the north. On the way, I did it until 11 p.m. as soon as I got caught, but the car no longer passed, so I went up to a nearby hill and camped. I tried to make a fire and eat something before I went to bed this evening. But the sudden rain put out the fire. I starved. Help me~!!
