Phew, that was a long drive for a weekend. It always takes longer than you think - Australian distances are really vast. We took most of Friday to drive to Beachport in South Australia before a relaxing afternoon in the hammock and by the fire. It was a really lovely, private place to camp, and we were joined by a few other Land Rover fanatics, some of which we knew, and some we didn't.
On the Saturday, we drove into Beachport to fill up with petrol and diesel and head south along the beach. Beachport's a lovely small historic seaside town, great for holidays - the usual Aussie boating, camping and fishing.
From there, we headed to the beach, where we spent a good half an hour letting down tyres and putting up sandflags.
The tide was coming in, which can be super dangerous for beach driving. I wouldn't recommend it! Lucky it wasn't too high. We did get stuck and slide around a little bit too close to the sea for my liking. We'd deflated to 18 PSI but the hot sand and friction brought it up to 20 and 22 for some, so deflating to 15 got us out of trouble - thank goodness. Our heart really was in our mouth!
Then we headed to Southend for an icypole before heading further into the National Park. There are some stunning views of the ocean down that way, that's for sure!

Then it was into a very sandy area where we could stop for a bit and watching the Discovery owners get stuck half way up and one of them slide into a kind of ditch, meaning the boys spent ages with winches and max traxx and snatch straps pulling them out. That's half the fun for them I suppose.
After getting enough sand in our butts to cover the Sahara, we went back to camp and chatted and made dinner on the fire. Sadly we had to leave the next day and couldn't do the longer drive from Beachport to Robe, but that was poor planning on our part. We did go last year though and probably will go again in December, so it wasn't too much of a drama.
It's such a great place to go four wheel driving and feels like a real adventure. We can't wait to go back!
