The State of Michigan has an extensive Park system. It features 74 Parks and 12 State Forests with camping. Today we'll take a look at our favorite park, Harrisville State Park.
SOURCE
This park is located half-way between Oscoda and Alpena on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron. It was established in 1921 and is one of our states oldest parks!
On it's 107 acres it has 195 campsites and 2 mini cabins. The campsites range in size from small tent sites to pull-through sites to accommodate rigs 50ft+. All sites have either 20/30/50 amp electrical service, a fire ring and picnic table.
Here are some of our favorite campsites.
This is campsite 66. Most of the sites on the Eastside of the campground are on the water. You also get a path to your own "private" beach spot.
Campsite 78. This one is on the north side of the restrooms and has a path to the beach too. These are nice private sites with tree barriers between your neighbors.
Modern Bathhouse
The park has a very nice bathroom and shower house. On the North side of the building you have the normal restroom area. On either side of the building you have showers and shower/bath combos. They have handicapped and family friendly rooms as well.
On the South side of the building you will find a vending machine and spot to wash your dishes. Most everything is Stainless steel or tile and cleaned daily. We've never found the bathrooms or showers in any condition other than clean.
Park Activities
During the summer months the park and community is host to many different activities. Nestled in the Pine and Cedar is a 2 mile walking/hiking trail and a non-groomed Cross Country trail. On most weekends they will have classes for children teaching them about nature and the area.
Inside the park they have a Baseball Diamond, Day use pavilion, Horse shoe pits and playground to name a few. A short drive away and you'll find yourself in the resort town of Harrisville. A little further up the road and you can visit the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse.
With so many different attractions in the area, you are sure to find something that interests you!
