Saturday, as always, is a day off for me. So I have the opportunity to go on a little trip. This time my road lies to the northeast of Italy. There, among the mountain ranges of the Alps, is the small town of Udine.

Субота як завжди для мене є вихідним днем. Тож я маю можливість поїхати в невеличку подорож. Цього разу моя дорога лежить на північний схід Італії. Там серед гірських хребтів Альпійських гір розташоване невелике містечко Удіне.
From Treviso to Udine I traveled by train for an hour and a half. Outside the window I saw the picturesque landscapes of the Dolomites. Although it is spring, March is over and the temperature on the thermometer reaches 16 degrees, the mountains are still covered with snow. The peaks sparkle in the sun with their white hats. Today, the fog prevents you from seeing all the beauty of the Alpine mountains.
З Тревізо до Удіне я їхала поїздом півтора години. За вікном я бачила мальовничі краєвиди Доломітів. Хоч зараз весна, закінчується березень і на термометрі температура сягає 16 градусів тепла, гори ще вкриті снігом. Вершини виблискують під сонцем своїми білими шапками. Сьогодні туман перешкоджає побачити всю красу Альпійських гір.
The alley, on both sides of which grew these trees, bloomed with pink and white flowers, was pleasantly impressed. These are magnolias. The sidewalks were covered with petals like snow. And somehow I did not want to step on this luxurious carpet. This road from the railway station led to the center of Udine.
Приємно вразила алея, по обидва боки якої росли ці дерева, заквітчані рожевим і білим цвітом. Це магнолії. Тротуари були засипані пелюстками, наче снігом. І якось не хотілося ступати на цей розкішний килим. Ця дорога від залізничної станції вела в центр міста Удіне.
The huge church I met on my way was the Cathedral. It is the largest in Udine. The cathedral is located in Piazza Duomo. The cathedral began to be built in 1236 on behalf of Patriarch Bertoldo. The church was completed and expanded over time. The facade of the cathedral is made in the style of Romanticism and Gothic. You can admire it for hours.

A massive and towering bell tower was built next to the cathedral in 1441. According to the author Cristoforo da Milano, a statue of the Madonna should stand on top of the bell tower and reach the height of an angel in the castle church. Then there would be a symbolic Annunciation over the city.
I really wanted to get to the middle of the cathedral to see the works of world famous artists. Here are collected paintings by Tiepolo, Pordenone, Pellegrino da San Daniele, Torretti (teacher Canova), Domenico da Tolmezzo, Dorini. But to my great regret, the schedule of the cathedral did not coincide with mine.

Я дуже хотіла потрапити в середину собору щоб побачити роботи видатних художників світу. Тут зібрані картини Тьєполо, Порденоне, Пеллегріно да Сан Данієлє, Торретті (вчителя Канови), Доменіко да Толмеццо, Доріньі. Але на мій превеликий жаль, розклад роботи собору не співпадав з моїм.
I went on and in front of me lay the exquisite Freedom Square, Piazza Liberta. The best building on the square is the Loggia Lionello. It is built in the Venetian Gothic style. The loggia began to be built in 1448 according to the drawings of the jeweler Niccolo Lionello. The walls of the building are covered with pink and white marble, impress with their elegance.

Opposite is the equally beautiful Cathedral of St. John, San Giovanni with a magnificent loggia. On the clock tower, two Moors reflect the hour. Huge statues of Hercules and Cacus are located on the square.

From Freedom Square, I climb the stairs to the castle. In front of me is the Arch of Bollani, built in 1556 by the famous architect Andrea Palladio. On top of the arch is decorated with a statue of a Venetian lion.

I walk through the arch to a fountain gurgling with clear crystal clear water.

A great mountain appears before my eyes. On the left, I climb up under the porticoes of Lippomano.

From here I have a wonderful view of the castle hill, which is topped by a grand castle building. The exact date of construction of the castle is unknown.

I go up the stairs and in front of me is the oldest church in Udine, Santa Maria di Castello. This church was built during the Lombards. There is a museum in the church. But it is worth going to admire the ancient frescoes that have survived to this day.

Through the Grimani Arch, which was built near the church in 1552 and dedicated to the Doge of the same name. In the courtyard you can see the bell tower of the church, crowned with a statue of an angel, returning in different directions under the influence of the wind.

The castle now houses a museum. I bought a bouquet for 4 euros and inspected the exhibits. The exhibition tells about the past of this city and shows ancient finds. These are ancient coins, oil lamps, women's jewelry, figurines of animals and people, ancient weapons and much more.

The castle courtyard offers a magnificent view of the city of Udine, which lies before your eyes like in the palm of your hand.

The castle courtyard is large and spacious. In the middle, as everywhere, is a well. Opposite the castle was built a building where the servants lived. Now there is a cafe where you can drink coffee, wine and eat a piece of delicious pizza. I also decided to go there and drink coffee.

I go down and admire the beauty of Udine. Every stone, every wall, every house is a historical value.

Matteotti Square is adjacent to Freedom Square. This is a former market square that has preserved its beauty. Houses of pastel colors decorate the area. There are many cafes and bars around, where residents and guests of Udine like to make appointments and spend time with friends or in a circle.

Udine suffered devastation and misery during wars that raged for centuries. But each time the city was rebuilt and rose from the ruins like a phoenix. The last earthquake in 1979 destroyed many houses and killed many people. But now the city has become even better and no trace of destruction is visible. The city is expanding, new modern neighborhoods are being built that blend well with the historic.
