A stroll down The Alacran Alley (Eng/Esp)

Today’s tour takes us to an iconic spot in the city known as Callejon The Alacran, where it feels as though time has stood still. Everything here still retains a distinctive colonial atmosphere. Although I’ve walked through here many times—and have even written about it—every time I pass by, I experience new and pleasant sensations.

I entered this area via Comercio Street and immediately noticed the decorations hanging overhead—small light bulbs and artificial butterflies that have been there since Cumana’s anniversary celebration. Meanwhile, fresh flowers stand out in the planters lining both sides of the sidewalks.

This alleyway serves as a passageway to the city’s historic district; from the cross street, you can see the Church of Santa Ines, whose pastel colors make it stand out against the vast expanse of blue. This very angle has been depicted in countless paintings and is the most frequently reproduced by local artists.

As I mentioned, all the facades retain their original design, and although everything seems arranged like the set of a play, these homes are inhabited; you can see pets wandering about, and in this case, I could hear music.

I love colorful flowers; here, the trinitaria stands out like a queen, beautifying everything around it. The red, fuchsia, and orange hues stand out against the green contrast of the leaves. Another very beautiful plant I noticed is called the "Flor de cielo," which grows in hanging clusters and is distinguished by its deep purple color.

I enjoy passing through here; it transports me to another era, like a gentleman of yesteryear strolling through neat streets, in the midst of a colorful dream where the vicissitudes of modernity have not yet caught up with me.

El recorrido de hoy nos lleva por un lugar emblemático de la ciudad, el cual se conoce como Callejón El Alacrán, donde parece que el tiempo se detuvo. Y es que todo lo que existe en este lugar todavía conserva un distintivo aire colonial. Aunque ya he transitado por aquí en varias ocasiones, incluso he escrito sobre ello, cada vez que pasó por acá percibo nuevas y gratas sensaciones.

Accedí a este lugar por la calle Comercio y de inmediato concentré la mirada en la ornamentación presente en la zona superior, pequeños bombillos y mariposas artificiales aún están alli desde la celebración del aniversario de Cumaná. Por otra parte, las flores naturales se destacan en las jardineras ubicadas a ambos lados de las aceras.

Este callejón es una vía para comunicarse con el Casco Histórico de la ciudad, desde la transversal se puede observar la iglesia Santa Inés, sus colores pasteles la hacen llamativa ante la inmensidad de lo azul. Justamente este ángulo ha sido reproducido en innumerables pinturas, siendo el más replicado entre los artistas locales.

Como indiqué, todas las fachadas mantienen su diseño antiguo y aunque todo parezca dispuesto como escenografía de una obra de teatro, estas viviendas están habitadas, se pueden observar animales domésticos deambulando y, en este caso, pude escuchar música.

Las coloridas flores me encantan, acá la trinitaria se presenta como la reina, embelleciendo todo lo que está a su alrededor. Los colores rojo, fucsia y naranja sobresalen ante el contraste verde proveniente de las hojas. Otra planta muy hermosa que pude distinguir se llama Flor de cielo, la cual crece en racimos colgantes y se distinguen por su color morado intenso.

Disfruto pasar por acá, me traslada a otra época, como un caballero de antaño paseando por unas calles pulcras, en medio de un sueño colorido donde los avatares de la modernidad aún no me alcanzan.
