This morning, after having breakfast, we left for the summit camp from Sankari base camp. Since we had taken a complete pack with a guide, from today onwards, the responsibility of our breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner was on the camp organiser. As I mentioned in the previous post, we took a rucksack with us. It contained some of our clothes, which were going to be useful to us in the summit camp. We handed over this bag to these people who were going to take us to the upper summit camp by horse.
Our two young children were with us, who were experiencing trekking for the first time. We planned the entire trip keeping them in mind so that they could enjoy the whole journey.
According to , there wasn't much support available here 15 years ago, when he summited the Kedarkantha for the first time. Which means that carrying our own hydration supplies was a wise decision. This time, while trekking to Jooda Lake, we noticed that there were shops approximately every 500 to 700 meters where you could buy lemonade, chocolates, tea, and other food items.
We took a break between Sankari Base Camp and Jooda Pond, where an uncle at a shop said you couldn't find better lemon water anywhere. He was so pleasantly pleasant that we drank the lemon water without hesitation and headed for Jooda Pond (Jooda Talab). Jooda Pond is about 3.5 to 4 kilometres from the Sankari Village basecamp.
We reached Juda Pond, had lunch, and sat there for about an hour, as Summit Camp was only about a kilometre and a half away. Since we were staying at Summit Camp today, we decided to spend some time at Jooda Pond. We found the lunch at Jooda pond very fresh and hot. We were all quite hungry, and we enjoyed eating lunch.
After that, we lay in the sun for a long time. Here we found a very small puppy, whose name we asked and found out that it had not been named yet. We lovingly called him Sheeru. He was playing with a sock, and as soon as we took off our shoes, he started biting our shoes.
Interestingly, both our children were enjoying trekking and hadn't mentioned getting tired even once. They hadn't suffered any other physical discomfort. This was good for us because, based on this, we were able to get a rough idea of the next day's final summit. Approximately how long would it take, and we were planning to return to Sankari basecamp and travel to Dehradun the next day if all went well.
Finally, approximately 1.5 km from Juda Talab, we reached the summit camp of Kedarkantha, where it was planned to summit Kedarkantha the next morning to enjoy the sunrise. We had evening snacks and dinner at the camp. We fell asleep around 7:30 PM. The guide asked us to wake up at 2 AM, and at 3 AM, we could start the trek to our final summit.
