Hello everyone, today I want to talk about our trip to Sardinia. We went there by ferry from Livorno. When our ferry docked, we waited in the car queue for our turn to board. It took quite a while for our ship to unload. But finally, the loading began and we drove into the garage section.
We boarded safely, left the car and went to settle in. Here is our four person cabin. My nephews were with us too. The kids were really surprised when they saw the bunk beds. These beds were like the ones you see in a train. They had never seen anything like that before. My nephews are not really familiar with traveling by train. We had a toilet and a shower, in the room as well. The kids thought the bunk beds were really cool.
I have claustrophobia so we picked a cabin with a window. It’s not severe but it’s still better this way. Once all four beds were opened, our cabin looked quite sweet and tidy. The view from the room was great. We rested for a bit. Then we went out to check out the ship. The sunset light looked really beautiful.
Since we had hit the road very early, we were quite hungry. As we were leaving Livorno port, we decided to have dinner against the magnificent sunset view. We enjoyed the silence and peace before it got crowded. It was very very romantic. It felt like we were on a giant cruise ship.
We took a look at the restaurant, but the menu was mostly meat based. So, we chose the bistro instead, as there were more meat free options there.
After the sun went down, we went up to the deck. There was another ferry next to us belonging to the Moby company. We slowly said goodbye to the city of Livorno and the mainland. Our sea journey had officially begun. The kids were so excited. The ferry was going to leave at ten pm. We got to the port of Olbia at seven am. We had to get up early so we went to bed as soon as we left the port.
We got up at five am because of the announcement on the ship. There were bars inside where we could have breakfast. But we had everything with us. We had our breakfast and then vacated the cabin. We got off the ferry around eight am. Luckily the weather was great. We did not experience any delays. Our hotel check-in wasn't until two. So we had some time to kill. We decided to explore the island a bit. The island was nice. It was good to get out and see some of it before settling into our hotel.
Our first stop was the famous Costa Smeralda. I can't describe the beauty of this place really. Our original plan only included the archeology park. But our exit from the ferry was quick and we decided to stop by these touristical spots to kill some time. The kids couldn't resist and dove in as soon as they saw the sea. They jumped in with their clothes on at first. So we had to dry their clothes in the sun. The water was warm and clear. It was way better than I thought. I was really looking forward to putting on my swimsuit and jumping in.
We started our cultural tour at an interesting spot. A nekropolis called Tomba dei Giganti. The view was impressive with mountains and fields blending together. Curiously video recording was forbidden, but luckily they allow photos. I did not quite get why. But it is a really beautiful place.
And finally we arrived at our hotel. It's called Le Dune. It consists of several sections. The part we stayed in was called I Ginepri. Our room actually consisted of two standard rooms connected by a door. We reserved one side for my nephews. Everything in our room was very clean and organized. They gifted us two beach bags with our towels inside. The mini bar was full and to my surprise, the keys were old-fashioned keys instead of cards.
The hotel is four star and very well maintained. Everywhere was lush and green. We rested for a while and then switched to beach mode to look around. We wanted to eat early and go to sleep because we were very tired. We chose one of te seaside restaurants for dinner. We ended our first evening facing the sea. I’ll talk about our following days in the next posts. See you soon.
