Hello everyone. On the second day in Sardinia we had breakfast and of course, stopped by the kids club for my nephews. They theoretically keep the children entertained here all day. But since it was only the second day of our vacation, we decided to spend it all together. Then we went to the sea. Swimming was forbidden that day as they said there was a dangerous current. I don’t know, I didn't think the waves were that massive. The hotel had its beach, which was really nice. There were sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach. You had to pay to use them. The price of the sunbeds and umbrellas was different depending on how close you were to the sea. They were arranged in rows, like row, second row, third row and fourth row. The price varies according to the distance from the sea.
We spent some time by the sea. Then the swimming ban was lifted and the sea cheered everyone up because swimming in the waves was super fun. We had lunch then dropped the kids off at the club. It was a chance to see the islands interior. Sardinia is famous, for its cheeses so we visited a dairy farm. At first everything seemed okay. We were driving on a wide, beautiful asphalt road. Then we turned off, following Google. We saw a promising sign that said Formaggi, meaning cheese.
On the way a guard dog was protecting the flock. After enjoying the sweet scenery, we arrived at the dairy. There was no one at the door, but there were very charming cats. We tasted five types of cheese. We chose one to eat at the hotel. Although the hotel provides three meals a day, this cheese was delicius. Everything here is so fresh, it’s as if it was just made. We decided to stop by again just before leaving to buy some cheese as gifts. Unfortunately they sell the cheeses in quite large pieces and we had no place to store them, otherwise we would have bought them asap. The place is run by a husband and wife. The woman served us the cheeses while her husband was in the dairy section. He asked us through the window, What’s the differenc from the Pecorino in Tuscany? We said, Yes it’s different. Actually we have shepherds back home who come from Sardinia to make cheese. We mentioned that there is one right near us, with a name like Giovanni, which we saw on Google. He said, Almost everyone here has the same name and there are only a few surnames across the island. People give their kids the names as their fathers so the names always get repeated. Giovanni said, My name is Giovanni, my fathers name was Giovanni and my grandfathers name was also Giovanni. 😄 The people in a village have a family where the father and his two sons all have the same name Giovanni is not the only one with this situation there is another family, with the same thing. Three men, same name, same surname. We laughed, ofc they are used to it, but I think it could drive a person crazy.
Satisfied and happy, cheesed up, we went to pick up the kids from the club. We were really looking forward to this because it was their first time in a place like this. I asked my nephew Did you like it? and he said, I loved it so much but I missed you just a little bit. The kids really enjoyed the club. They even got to be part of the Pinocchio musical that evening. They were given roles, in it which made it more special. I struggled to find the energy to go to the show where the children would play crickets. We were very tired, but it was lovely.
On the second day the sea was really rough. We went to the beach. Stayed there the whole day. Then we had food at the beach restaurant. The beach was where we had our food. We were, at the beach the day. In the afternoon the little one slept to the sound of the waves while we played games. Here the children were building megalithic structures on behalf of the Romans; we were breathing in the beautiful, salty sea air and resting. There were bird cages in the hotel garden. The talking parrots were very entertaining for the children.
The third day ended in the room for us because both my nephew and I ran a fever during the night. I don't know if it was acclimatization or if we caught a virus on the way. In short we spent fun time in bed under the influence of antipyretics. We were supposed to go to Sassari, which's the second largest city in Sardinia but we ended up staying in the room. Our recovery from whatever we had did not take a time fortunately. We were back to normal quickly so that was a relief and we were glad that our time in the room was short because Sassari was not something we got to experience. In honor of our recovery, we went to have ice cream. They make it themselves at the hotel, homemade ice cream. There are many varieties like a real gelateria.
Then we went to a restaurant that serves food from Sardinia. The food in Sardinia is mostly meat. I was not sure if I would like it. The people I was with they really like meat. They were very hungry. We sat in the bar area and listened to some music while we waited for dinner. Then the waiter came and told us what they have. They have homemade gnocchetti from Sardinia with tomato sauce, ravioli with spinach and ricotta. And Zuppa Frattau which is made with thin bread and egg and pecorino. Sardinian cuisine is really about the meat but I was hoping to find something I would like.
That evening's meal proved that this place wasn't quite for me. There were mostly meat dishes. Three of the apetizers were meatless and those were delicious. I had something that was supposed to be soup. It was really like porridge. The main course was about grilled meats. They had lots of kinds of grilled meats. They even had Sardinias suckling lamb on a spit. I did not take the picture. It always made me feel sad even when I used to eat meat. I really enjoyed the desserts and the cheeses.
The next morning the sea was really nice to us. It had waves and the water was crystal clear. There was a breeze too. Our hotel was not on the beach it was a little way back, from the coastline. We could walk to the beach easily. They also had a little car to take us there. The kids loved going to the beach in the Golf Car. They thought it was a lot of fun to travel in the Golf Car. Our tour included dinners. There are several restaurants at the resort and one can be chosen each evening. We generally chose the restaurant by the sea. The food is buffet style, mostly fish oriented, but there is also meat and pasta. The people who work there can also get things for the children if you ask them to. If you get there when they first open you can get a table with a nice view of the sea and the sunset. These dinners remained one of the brightest memories of our trip.
We were horrified when we looked at the hotel shop and saw the prices. A medium sized plastic toy ship was 22 euros. So we searched for a cheap store on Google. We found a place 6 kilometers away with a huge range of products. After toy shopping, we went to the beach. In the evening there was a show program and my eldest nephew became the star of the hotel.
The next day we went on an exploratory trip to Castelsardo, considered one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. First we walked around an observation terrace with a wonderful view. We toured the town center and gave up on the idea of bringing the children here. Such slopes and stairs would be a physical trauma for the little one. So we decided to explore by ourselves while they hung out at the sea. The view was, in one word, mozzafiato. Everywhere looked like it was in the palm of your hand. How the agave plants clung between the rocks. There is a beach below that looks wonderful. The most important tourist craft here is coral jewelry.
We reached the Cathedral of St. Anthony. There was an entry fee, so we didn't go in. But we looked at the catapult outside. Everywhere was so photogenic that I couldn't stop myself from taking photos of everything. Then my phone shut down due to the extreme heat. This place is beautiful but requires serious physical preparation because everywhere is stairs, uphill and downhill. We saw the cathedral from the outside. There was a panoramic square and a museum. The cliffs, the castles. The sea looked very inviting for swimming with a mask.
We spent our last day quietly at the hotel and the beach. Our vacation ended here. I hope I’ve been able to reflect this magnificent summer atmosfere of Sardinia to you. Thank you for reading, for your lovely comments and for your support. I wish everyone a good morning, a good day and a good week.
