Hail to the Hive!
Having now arrived in Chirk and preparing to cross the aqueduct the weather has turned a bit windy, stormy and rainy. ‘ Yuckity ‘ I think is the correct meteorological term for this kind of miserableness. But I wanted to get an idea of what was not only on the other side of the aqueduct but also on the other side of the tunnel just beyond. So when there was a break in the weather, off we went.
Hoping it wouldn’t start raining again we set off at a pretty quick walking pace, possibly faster than Badger Chugs along usually and the canal ahead looks quite nice.
An interesting tug style narrowboat moored outside someones private residence. I do like this style of Narrowboat. Maybe we would get something like this after Badger?
The walk over the aqueduct is stunning and the railway viaduct running alongside just adds more engineering grandeur to the whole thing. It’s a long way down to the Ceiriog River below.
Safely across to the other side and now we are in Wales!
looks in a hurry to get into the tunnel. Maybe she can smell rain coming!
The tunnel is only 421 meters long so not a long walk through. Theres is a towpath with handrail to stop you plopping into the canal in the dark.
In we go!
Hmmm the light at the end of the tunnel does look a long way off.
looks happy enough though so off we go.
& I came prepared! Well prepared to look like a minion I suppose 🤣
And before long we are near the end.
It is always a relief to exit a long dark tunnel. Seems to always make you smile.
This side has very steep embankments with trees all the way up…
And lots of mud!
A quick walk to above the tunnel mouth to get a look at where we will morr up tomorrow as we will be re doing this journey by boat tomorrow. No walking, as it won’t be Wednesday!
