Hello Hivers,
Hope you're all in high spirits! Today, I'm excited to share the enchanting journey of our Bijli Mahadev trek, a quick but soul-stirring adventure that Abhay Mehta and I embarked upon.
But before we delve into the tales of Bijli Mahadev, let me rewind a bit. Abhay and I had just wrapped up our explorations in Lahaul and Spiti and some charming corners of Manali. Here are some photographs that will definitely reflect some beautiful memories .

After returning from Lahaul, our expedition began in Kullu, where we hopped on a bus that transported us to the starting point of the Bijli Mahadev track.
A mere 2-hour hike awaited us, but little did we know that those hours would unfold into a tapestry of breathtaking views and spiritual moments.
Into the Heart of Kullu: The Bijli Mahadev Trek Begins
The trek commenced with a bus ride to Kullu, where we embraced the call of the mountains. Arriving at the trailhead, a modest 2-hour hike led us to the pinnacle.
The view from the top, to put it simply, was beyond words.
I've shared some photographs capturing the entire expanse of Kullu, with even the airport visible in one snapshot.
The trek was not just a physical journey but a pact with nature. Instructions adorned the path, declaring it a plastic-free zone and urging us to safeguard nature for generations to come.
A magnificent gate marked the entrance to the Bijli Mahadev temple grounds, setting the tone for the serenity that awaited.
Soulful Moments at the Top
Inside the temple, time seemed to slow down. We offered our respects to Mahadeva, finding solace in the spiritual embrace of the surroundings.
A trishula, stretching 20 to 25 feet, stood as a symbol of divine energy. The vibe at the summit resonated with spirituality and a profound sense of calm.
Tales of Bijli Mahadev: Conversations with Locals
Our journey was not just about the physical ascent; it was an exploration of the tales of Bijli Mahadev. Conversations with the locals revealed captivating legends. One such tale spoke of the temple's origin, a result of Lord Shiva's intervention in thwarting a demon named Kulantha.
The demon sought to submerge the valley by stopping the Beas river's flow, taking the form of a dragon. Lord Shiva, in a divine confrontation, caused the demon's tail to catch fire, forming the mountain on which Bijli Mahadev now stands.
Shivling's strike with Lightning
Lightning strike once in a yea which makes the Shivaling (representation of the Hindu god Shiva ) shattered into pieces. The temple priests collected the fragments, restoring the Shivaling with salt, butter, and sattu. This happens once in a year and the lightning which means Bijli in Hindi named the peak Bijli Mahadev.
It's said that through this ritual, the Shivalinga regains its original form, embodying the cycle of destruction and rebirth.
As we descended from Bijli Mahadev, these tales echoed in our minds. Our journey was not just a physical adventure but a spiritual odyssey and natural beauty.
