Hello dear friends,
On this beautiful day, I want to share what I did during my weekend. In my previous post, I had already updated you that I had practically arrived in Tuscany to attend Lucca Comics, which I ultimately couldn't do due to the floods and bad weather.
After spending some time in Siena and visiting a beautiful village, as you can see in my previous post, I moved to the parts of the province of Arezzo. I chose this area because it's one of the provinces in Tuscany that I've visited less frequently, and also because the weather was better.
I wanted to visit an important village in the province of Arezzo called Lucignano. It is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and a significant part of its charm comes from its millennia-old history and its vast artistic and cultural heritage. In fact, we must understand that the history of this village is truly ancient. In the past, it was an outpost of the Etruscans, an ancient people who inhabited these lands. Later, during the Roman period, thanks to the consul Lucius Licinius Lucullus, this place was transformed into an important Roman city. Then, because it was located in a significant valley, it was contested for several years between the Sienese and the Florentines, and each of them made significant transformations to this important inhabited center.
As you can see from my photos, Lucignano still preserves its original urban layout with streets that lead to the seats of political and religious power. In reality, I had already heard of this place because it houses an important relic, something truly special, especially for lovers who come here on February 14th to pledge their fidelity.
In fact, in this small town, you can find the Tree of Life, also known as the Golden Tree. It is a reliquary shaped like a tree made of gilded copper, silver, and enamel. I must say, from my limited experience, that I have never seen anything like it anywhere in the world, let alone in Italy. It is truly a unique work of art. This artwork symbolizes the life story of Christ and represents the love between lovers. That's why this village has become one of the main destinations for lovers.
It was created in 1471 by a famous and skilled goldsmith, and, as I mentioned earlier, it is considered a lucky charm for lovers who come here to admire it and exchange love vows. But I've also heard that it has become a relic for seeking indulgences and help in times of difficulty, a truly traditional aspect that left me speechless.
Of course, I took my usual stroll through the streets of this place, and this beautiful village had something unique that other villages didn't. These streets always lead you to special places, and it is by visiting these places that you can immerse yourself in the culture and tradition of each location.
I hope you enjoyed what I shared, and I hope that during the story of this tree, which I finally saw in person, I must say it's truly a great work of art, you can understand why it took so many years to create it.
Goodbye to all, I wish you a wonderful day, and see you soon.
