Hello dear friends,
I have been a little absent because I had no interesting places to share with you, and besides, I needed to rest after a very busy working week. However, yesterday I was in Novara and had the opportunity to visit the Castello Visconteo, an important historical building located in the centre of the city, in Piedmont.
Today, the castle houses the museum of the Risorgimento, which tells the story of the unification of Italy in 1800 through numerous works of art. By visiting the castle, one can learn not only about the history of Italy but also about Piedmont. Personally, I also greatly appreciate the architecture and art of the castle itself, and it is always a source of admiration for me.
My trip to Novara Castle was a unique experience. I did not take many photos during my visit, but I enjoyed every single moment spent inside this majestic structure. My passion for architecture led me to visit this museum, which, although focused on weapons, was able to satisfy my curiosity.
The castle of Novara was built around 1200 during the medieval era. Initially, it had an administrative and military function to dominate the city of Novara by the Visconti family. However, when it came under the control of the Sforza family, the castle underwent major modifications. Bastions were added, large defensive bulwarks that made the castle even more imposing and impregnable.
Over time, the castle of Novara underwent several transformations. Following the Napoleonic conquest, the castle was turned into a barracks. Later, it became a prison, housing prisoners until 1970. After numerous restorations, the structure was transformed into a museum, which today is an important reference point for history and architecture enthusiasts.
However, at the bottom of this post I will leave you some sites to deepen your curiosity of the historical point of view because honestly I am not very good at telling this.
During my visit to the museum, I was able to admire the majesty of Novara Castle and discover its history. Thanks to the exhibitions inside, I was able to learn more about the weapons and war techniques used over the centuries. In addition, I really appreciated the spaces dedicated to art and culture, where I was able to admire some works of art of great historical and artistic value.
The Novara Castle is a truly fascinating structure that is definitely worth a visit. What is most striking is the interesting system of rooms, cross vaults and fireplaces that testify to the importance of the residence, which was used for not only military but also administrative and residential purposes. You can see from the photos that the castle is surrounded by a moat, which makes it even more imposing and impressive.
Fortunately, despite the lack of restoration, the castle is open to visitors all year round and offers guided tours to discover the history and culture of Piedmont, but also of Italy in general. Thanks to these tours, you can learn more about the history of the castle, the city of Novara and the illustrious people who lived there.
Unfortunately, like many works of art in Italy, the castle of Novara has suffered the wear and tear of time and lack of restoration. This has led to its decay, as can be seen from the photos, but this does not detract from its charm and beauty.
Once you arrive at the castle, you will be greeted by a stable bridge that will lead you to the entrance. If you are lucky, you may come across historical demonstrations of castle-related topics. You may see demonstrations of how soldiers dressed during the Risorgimento, or groups of enthusiasts reenacting ancient traditions.
Of course, most of the museum was focused on the collection relating to the wars of independence, so a lot of weapons that I honestly do not like that much, but that is my personal consideration.
In the end, after having explored this magnificent place, I can only share my thoughts with you. I find it really interesting that this historical structure has been recovered over time and is now used as a museum. Furthermore, I was very pleased to discover that part of the castle is also used for touring exhibitions and other events, which allows this ancient building to be enhanced even more and brought to life in a new and exciting way.
In fact, during my visit I noticed that, in addition to exhibitions, events and small concerts are also organised, making the castle an even more lively and fascinating place. I hope that the photos I shared with you were as interesting as it was for me to visit this place, which represents an important part of my country's history.
Finally, I would like to thank you for reading my post up to this point. Sharing my travel experiences with you is always a pleasure and I hope I have made you discover a new and fascinating place. Have a great day and I look forward to sharing my next adventures with you!
