Hello dear friends,
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I wouldn't be staying with my cousin for long. Firstly, because she has a rather small house and doesn't have much space to accommodate me. Secondly, I am a very curious person and I want to explore all of Sardinia during this vacation, especially before August arrives when the island will be crowded with tourists, making it quite chaotic to get around.
When I see a sea like this, it's impossible to resist!!
Since I had to meet up with a dear friend who is also in the area, I decided to move to Villasimius, a well-known tourist destination located on the southeastern coast of Sardinia, about 40 kilometers from Cagliari. I believe most of you are familiar with this place, which is probably less naturalistic and more touristy.
Before taking my luggage to the accommodation that would host me for the next few days, I wanted to visit one of the most important beaches in the area, Porto Giunco. It is characterized by its soft white and pink sand, which gave me the sensation of walking on a layer of talcum powder. The water was shallow but beautiful and crystal clear. In reality, I think it is quite difficult to find a bad sea in Sardinia, no matter where you go.
Maybe this photo helps to understand how soft the sand was.
I read that Porto Giunco is part of the Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara, which means it not only has a beautiful sea and beach but also a wonderful nature reserve. I would love to come here early in the morning because I have been told that during certain times of the day and month, there is a chance to see pink flamingos that practically live in this area. Perhaps I will return here and rent a pedal boat to take a ride. It seems that the water is not very deep, so we won't be in any danger.
In my haste, I even forgot to take a photo of what I consider the most important historical feature nearby, which is the Tower of Porto Giunco. This tower from the 17th century was built by the Spaniards to protect this part of Sardinia from pirate attacks, which unfortunately were common in the past. As an art enthusiast, I want to explore Sardinia to see if it is truly undervalued in terms of historical and tourist interest. I have heard that it is rich in hidden and underappreciated treasures.
I would say it's a great aperitif!
Later, I arrived at the hotel that would host me. Unfortunately, there weren't many options in this area, and I found this one to be quite expensive. However, my first impression was very positive, especially the pool area, which was nicely decorated. The hotel has some rooms with a sea view, even though the sea is not right next to the hotel. Nevertheless, this resort is an excellent choice for those seeking a relaxing vacation and also for people like me who want to use it as a base to explore other places in Sardinia.
In my opinion, this is the most beautiful part of the pool.
After dropping off my luggage and taking a refreshing shower, I rested by the pool. There were very few people around, so it was very pleasant. These moments not only help me relax but also allow me to take some photos. I always try not to capture people in my photos because I don't know if they are comfortable being photographed. I've had instances where people have reproached me for taking their pictures.
Thank you for reading this post. I will continue to keep you company with more photos in my upcoming posts. Once again, I thank you for the support and comments you leave, to which I always try to respond. I wish you all a wonderful day.
