It was our second day of excursion in the surroundings of Calderas, a beautiful town in Barinas state with many places to go among its forests, mountains and rivers. The itinerary of the day had as first place to visit the waterfall La Volcanera, and to get to its vicinity a truck came to pick us up at the inn early in the morning.
Era nuestro segundo día de excursión por los alrededores de Calderas, un bello pueblo del estado Barinas con muchos lugares para ir entre sus bosques, montañas y ríos. El itinerario del día tenía como primer lugar a visitar la cascada La Volcanera, y para llegar a sus cercanías un camión pasó a recogernos por la posada temprano en la mañana.
I don't remember exactly how many of us were in the group, but we were all glued together to fit in there. When the truck started the ride, so did the fun and laughter as we were jumping on various parts of the road.
No recuerdo cuántos éramos exactamente en el grupo, pero nos pegamos para caber todos allí. Cuando el camión comenzó el recorrido, también comenzó la diversión y las risas porque íbamos saltando en varias partes del camino.
The route in the truck was about 10 km and in that little more than half an hour that lasted, we had the opportunity to see the beautiful landscapes that this area has, there are some houses scattered around here with their crops.
La ruta en el camión era como de 10 Km y en esa poco más de media hora que duró, tuvimos la oportunidad de ver los lindos paisajes que tiene esta zona, hay algunas casas dispersas por aquí con sus sembradíos.
When we got to some bridges around here, the truck crossed very slowly and some people got nervous because of the weight we were carrying, but these structures are made of iron and look quite strong.
Al llegar a unos puentes que hay por aquí, el camión cruzó muy lentamente y algunos se pusieron nerviosos por el peso que traíamos, pero estas estructuras son de hierro y se ven bastante resistentes.
To this excursion you must bring your own water and food because although there are some houses along the way, nobody sells anything.
A esta excursión debes llevar tu agua y comida porque aunque hay algunas casas por el camino, nadie vende nada.
We arrived at the point where the hike was to begin and before leaving we collected everyone's money to pay the man in the truck.

The route continues through the riverbed of La Volcanera River, which has little water here and therefore you can walk, although with great care because everything is full of rocks of different sizes, the scenery is breathtaking.
La ruta sigue a través del cauce del río La Volcanera, el cual tiene poca agua por aquí y por eso se puede caminar, aunque con mucho cuidado porque todo está lleno de rocas de distintos tamaños, el escenario es impresionante.
In some parts you have the feeling of being in a place that has been dynamited, but all this scattering of rocks is natural.
En algunas partes tienes la sensación de estar en un lugar que ha sido dinamitado, pero toda esta dispersión de rocas es natural.
/ Con mi hermana About half an hour after ascending, we heard the sound of falling water, and a few minutes later we could see La Volcanera in front of us.
Como a la media hora de ir en ascenso, escuchamos el sonido del agua cayendo, y a los pocos minutos ya veíamos en frente de nosotros a La Volcanera.
To the left of the waterfall there is an immense rocky wall, some parts of it fall threads of water.
A la izquierda de la cascada hay una inmensa pared rocosa, por algunas partes de ella caen hilos de agua.
As you get closer and closer you find some wells, the water is super cold...

When you reach the waterfall, you are refreshed by the drizzle produced by the force of the water, which falls so wildly that few people in the group took a dip in the main well, I didn't.
Cuando alcanzas la cascada, te refresca la llovizna que produce la fuerza del agua, que cae tan salvajemente que pocas personas del grupo se dieron un baño en el pozo principal, yo no lo hice.
As for the height of La Volcanera waterfall, the guide didn't inform us, nor did I get anything on the Internet, but I estimate that it must be more than 50 meters.
En cuanto a la altura de la cascada La Volcanera, el guía no nos informó, tampoco conseguí nada en Internet, pero calculo que debe tener más de 50 metros.
We spent about 40 minutes there enjoying the place, eating what we had brought and talking and then we made our way back. When we were arriving to the starting point one of the companions fell and hit his shoulder on a rock, there was a doctor in the group and he checked him, but the diagnosis was that there was a fracture, then unfortunately he had to withdraw from the excursion and return to Caracas that same day. We continued with the itinerary, it was about 2:00 in the afternoon and an enigmatic place was waiting for us, which I will show you in my next post.
Estuvimos unos 40 minutos allí disfrutando del lugar, comiendo lo que habíamos llevado y conversando y luego hicimos la ruta de regreso. Cuando íbamos llegando al punto de inicio uno de los compañeros se cayó y se golpeó el hombro en una roca, había un médico en el grupo y lo revisó, pero el diagnóstico es que había fractura, entonces lamentablemente se tuvo que retirar de la excursión y volver a Caracas ese mismo día. Nosotros continuamos con el itinerario, eran como las 2:00 de la tarde y nos esperaba un enigmático lugar, el cual les mostraré en mi próxima publicación.
