Barquisimeto Obelisk
This is one of the places I was going to visit during my walk through Barquisimeto, the Obelisk Square, but I was not very excited to go there because of this trip what I wanted to know more about were the hills of Cubiro, the Quíbor Carcavas and the Caves of Carrao that I will soon publish, so a square was not so attractive to see for me; However, my thoughts changed when I saw the immensity of the Obelisk and the beauty of the square, so I became interested in its history and what it represents for the city.

Este es uno de los lugares que iba a conocer durante mi paseo por Barquisimeto, la plaza del Obelisco, pero no tenía gran emoción pasar por allí porque de este viaje lo que más quería conocer eran las lomas de Cubiro, las Cárcavas de Quíbor y las Cuevas del Carrao que próximamente publicaré, por lo que una plaza no era tan atractiva de ver para mí; sin embargo, mi pensamiento cambio cuando mire la inmensidad del Obelisco y lo bonita de la plaza, así que me interese por su historia y lo que representa para la ciudad.
The obelisk is a 70 meters high parallelepiped , built-in concrete and steel, which has an access ramp where children and adults slide down to the ground like a slide, a fairly large staircase, and an interior elevator that leads to a viewpoint, (when I was there I did not know that the obelisk was a viewpoint, I should have guessed right? No one told me and I missed the opportunity to have a spectacular view of the city) I guess the tour company I went with did know all the goodness of the place, but they can't afford to explore it completely due to time factor. The obelisk also has a clock in the upper area of the structure that was installed years after its inauguration.
El obelisco es un paralelepípedo de 70 metros de altura, levantado en concreto y acero, que dispone de una rampa de acceso por la que niños y adultos se deslizan hasta el suelo como un tobogán, una escalinata bastante grande y un ascensor interior que conduce a un mirador, (cuando estuve allí no sabía que el obelisco era un mirador, ¿debía suponerlo cierto? Nadie me lo dijo y me perdí la oportunidad de tener una vista espectacular de la ciudad) supongo que la empresa de turismo con la que fui si sabía todas las bondades del lugar, pero no pueden permitirse explorar por completo por factor tiempo. El obelisco también posee un reloj en el área superior de la estructura que fue instalado años después de su inauguración.
This monument is a symbol of the material identity of the capital of the state of Lara, it was inaugurated on September 14, 1952, by President Marcos Perez Jimenez who ordered its creation as part of a gift for the celebration of its 400 years, this square not only has the obelisk, it also has other visual attractions such as artistic works of geometric figures, there is a giant cube, a bicycle and skating track, an amphitheater, outdoor gym and playground, and canine park; it is a green area with ornamental flowers and a significant police presence. A nice place to hang out or play sports.
Este monumento constituye un símbolo de la identidad material de la capital del estado Lara, se inauguró el 14 de septiembre de 1952 por el presidente Marcos Pérez Jiménez que lo mando a crear como parte de un regalo por la celebración de sus 400 años, esta plaza no solo tiene el obelisco, también posee otras atracciones visuales como obras artísticas de figuras geométricas, hay un cubo gigante, una pista de bicicross y patinaje, un anfiteatro, gimnasio al aire libre y parque infantil y canino; es un área verde con flores de ornato y una importante presencia policial. Un bonito espacio para pasar el rato o hacer deporte.
There are street vendors selling ice cream and candy, I was left with the desire to eat ice cream because I spent my time taking pictures and exploring the area, the next time I go to this part of the country I want to do it in a particular way and dedicate enough time to get into everywhere and talk to the locals, Barquisimeto and Lara state has a lot of cultural richness to learn and enjoy.
La Plaza del Obelisco is located at Florencio Jimenez Av. and Libertador Av., Juan de Villegas parish, Barquisimeto.
Hay vendedores ambulantes de helados y dulces, yo me quede con las ganas de comerme un helado porque se me fue el tiempo sacando fotos y explorando el área, la próxima vez que vaya a esta parte del país quiero hacerlo de forma particular y dedicar tiempo suficiente para meterme en todas partes y conversar con los lugareños, Barquisimeto y el estado Lara tiene mucha riqueza cultural para aprender y disfrutar.
La Plaza del Obelisco está ubicado en la Av. Florencio Jimenez, y Av. Libertador, parroquia Juan de Villegas, Barquisimeto.
