I recently decided tot visit a temple here in Thailand and a friend of mine recommended that I start with Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan also known as Wat Pho.
The title of this post is just meant to be funny by the way the place was super cool and I am happy I decided to visit it. It's also pronounced "wat po" so it doesn't really make sense lol. When you first get there you will notice that it's a very calm place. At least when I went there since there were not a lot of people there at all. This temple has a lot of Chinese influence which you will see in some of the photos.
It's a really interesting place and is one of the earliest places of public education in Thailand. Also it's known as the birthplace of the Thai Massage we know today. You can get massages there but I didn't get one because it was such a hot day. I just couldn't handle it that time.
There are a lot of cats around the place and of course monks and Buddha statues.
It was also nice to see some statues without their heads chopped off like in my previous post. The place is filled with them. The most famous attraction of this temple however is the huge reclining Buddha. It's a 46 meter long Buddha that is inside one of the buildings. This is how he looks
I was told that this is the pose he chose to die in. Which to be honest looks like a pretty comfortable way to say goodbye. The walls are covered with illustrations that show the life of the Buddha and I thought it looked so cool.
These are his feet. A lot of detail in each square and they did a really good job of making this statue look amazing.
After seeing the reclining Buddha we decided to start leaving the place since we were all really sweaty and just needed to get into a place with AC where we could have a drink or two. It was a cool day in general though and I enjoyed walking around this beautiful temple.
This is the last photo I took that day on our way out. You can find these buildings called Pagodas at each of these temples and they look amazing in my opinion. These were in really good shape too compared to the last temple I visited. I really do recommend visiting this temple if you are ever in Bangkok. There are a lot of other things to do around the place too like going for a boat ride in the river or heading to Khaosan road which is also not too far away.
That's it for today and I really hope you like the photos as much as I liked visiting this amazing place. I will continue to visit more cool places like this in the coming days and posting them here. Thanks for all the support I've received so far. See ya next time!
