I was on vacation in Montenegro, the city of Sutomore. They offer various tours there, but I wanted to go to the Ostrog Monastery.
It took about an hour and a half to get there. We arrived below the monastery by minibus to transfer to the monastery bus.... There were a lot of curves to the top, I heard that there is also a road through the forest... I asked a woman next to me and she confirmed that the road starts from the place where we transferred to the monastery bus. A little above the parking lot, through the courtyard of the small church.....
I asked him to stop at a bend and let me go outside.... I wanted to go up the stairs to the monastery......
The road through the forest up the hill, a real refreshment unlike riding in a bus, where it goes curve, curve, curve.... 🤣
The monastery was built by Saint Vasilije Ostroški, who brought stones from the valley.....
1610 year.....
He healed many people, helped the locals when there was no water in one period..... There are records that Saint Basil asked God to find water. He hit the rock with his stick and water flowed from there, which saved the surrounding inhabitants at the time....the water flowed from there until a year ago, when the movement of the ground directed the water under the monastery....And even now in that opening find water...
In World War II, the Germans targeted the monastery, the grenade hit the wall of the monastery and did not explode... Experts studied the grenade, determined that it was correct and that they do not know why it did not activate....
And there are many more stories related to this monastery....many healings that people talk about....
The monastery was full of people, from different parts of the world, everyone walking in silence in the courtyard, taking photos...first I will visit the place where the relics of St. Basil are kept, which are still waxed and smell like basil....
After the wide stairs, you enter a small chamber, a low door where you have to bend down... A priest sits next to the chest with the relics and instructs the visitors how to approach and be careful not to touch the relics...
Everything goes so fast...
When I left there, I came back slowly and saw a room where you can buy icons, rosaries... crucifixes... and then I saw the stairs leading up... So I decided to go up.....
There are two terraces... One is smaller and the other larger, you enter a smaller chamber where a young man talks about Vasilija Ostroška and the monastery, various interesting things...
There is a shell that did not explode, as well as the hole it made. ... Because she went through the door and hit the wall, the rock... And she stayed there... In that chamber are kept the relics of one of Vasilij's students....
And by the door on the outside, there is an opening from which water used to flow....
The monastery is small, although when you look at it from a distance, you can think that it is huge....
I walked around the yard, took photos...
Everything was beyond my expectations... Somehow I felt a deep peace, and at the same time there were a lot of visitors, crowds around me, but they didn't cloud the spirit of the monastery....
I wanted to sit down for a while, but then I decided to go through the forest to get to the bus.... I started slowly.... Part of the stairs were.... Halfway to the rocky path..
... .that is a path that is believed to have been used by Vasilije to carry stones to the monastery....
I was alone there, absorbing the silence, imagining how many times Vasilije had passed that way, to carry the stones up and slowly build the monastery....
It took me half an hour to get to the parking lot, and I passed a small church... And now I know the way up there... I hope you enjoyed this walk of mine... 🌸
Thank you very much for visiting my blog❤️
I wish you a nice evening and a wonderful weekend..🌸☀️
