Hello, fellow Hiveans! Greetings from Beijing!
Welcome to my latest travel blog on visiting the Temple of Heaven in Beijing which is one of the top tourist destinations with some amazing architectural marvels and beautiful surrounding with natural beauty.
During this labor holiday, I had an opportunity to visit the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, China which is a magnificent structure, also known as 'Tiantan' in the Chinese language this is a symbol of China's rich cultural heritage and has a fascinating history. This beautiful temple is an architectural marvel and a testament to the ingenuity and skill of the ancient Chinese people and it was a remarkable experience for me. Let me take you through my journey to the Temple of Heaven and share some shots of the best site of the scenic area and my experience and thoughts on this marvel of architecture and the beautiful garden area.
As I am living around 65-70 km north of the Beijing city center but the Temple of Heaven is located in the southeastern part of Beijing so, it was quite difficult to go there by public transport to save a solid amount of taxi fare being a student! But my other two colleagues managed to go there by bus and subway within 2 hours in spite of the heavy traffic due to the holidays as it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, we don't want to miss this time. The Temple of Heaven has a great history it was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the construction was completed during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was initially constructed as a site for emperors to offer sacrifices to the gods, with the belief that this would ensure good harvests for the people. But later the temple was opened to the common public and has become a popular tourist destination from around the country and to international tourists.
We entered the area from the east gate which side was not so crowdy like the northern state as the peak of the main prayer hall can be seen from the north gate entrance. We started walking from the right side means the north area and walk through the center to the southern gate and finish by visiting the other parts of the western side to cover the area!
The whole complex area is really a vast area covering an area of approximately 2.7 square kilometers. The most striking feature of the Temple of Heaven is its unique architectural style, which combines traditional Chinese design elements with symbolic meanings and their age-old religious belief which is not seen in china anymore but in such places, I have noticed some religious and belief-related activities! The complex is made up of three main buildings which are The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, The Imperial Vault of Heaven, and The Circular Mound Altar. All of these were built with special purposes. Besides, there are the Fasting places, Double loop longevity pavilion, and several gardens in the scenic area.
The main structure of the Temple of Heaven is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, which is an impressive circular building with three tiers of blue-tiled eaves. It is the most famous building in the complex and is often featured in postcards and other tourist materials. It is a magnificent circular building with a triple-tiered roof covered in blue glazed tiles. The building has no pillars, and the entire structure is supported by wooden beams that interlock without the use of nails or cement-type mechanisms which give it remarkable stability.
There is a long basement way from the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests to the Imperial Vault of Heaven which is a little bit shorter than the Hall of Prayer. The pathetic fact is that everything was closed, so there was no way to see the inside design and architecture of these structures in depth.
We see that from the outside first then enter into the area which is the third ticket checking in the spot as there was the entry ticket and then the hall of prayers and now the imperial vault. We bought the combined ticket for 34 RMB.
An interesting fact that I noticed here is that many people were clapping their hands and praying for something in front of the inscribed dragon sculpture on the entrance stairs of the structure. I don't know anything about that just it was my exploration!
Just after the Imperial Vault, the last main structure known as the Circular Mound Altar is situated. This is the final main structure in the complex. It is a circular platform with three tiers of marble terraces and is surrounded by a moat. The altar was used for sacrificial ceremonies, and the design is said to represent the circle of heaven and the square of the earth.
Here we also noticed that there was a small circular stone on the platform where people were standing for a kind of praying which is also an interesting thing I noticed though I didn't know about the facts and the history of such activity.
Besides these three main structures, there is the fasting palace and beautiful Double loop longevity pavilion which will also attract you with the beautiful design and architectural uniqueness.
One of the most beautiful aspects of the Temple of Heaven is its surrounding park, which includes various gardens, lakes, and pavilions. The park is a great place to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the scenery. There are also many activities to enjoy within the park, such as tai chi, kite flying, and traditional Chinese music performances.
And with all these beautiful structures and rich history and cultural importance, it has become an important cultural site in Beijing, China, and it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex represents a significant period in Chinese history and culture, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of ritual and tradition in Chinese society which has faded away but the temple of heaven will remind you again and again.
In addition, the whole complex has a great collection of natural beauty. There are many trees and flower gardens like the one hundred flower gardens and the Chinese rose garden. The beautiful gardens and impressive architecture make it a perfect place to relax and take in the beauty of nature.
There are plenty of open spaces for spending time with nature and children can play happily. The quality time with nature will bring a soothing feeling here and the beauty of flowers will give a great opportunity for shooting some life-long memories.
The overall visit to the Temple of Heaven is a truly unforgettable experience to explore the beauty of ancient Chinese architecture and design. If you are ever in Beijing, I highly recommend a visit to this magnificent place.
