Hello hive friends, today I bring you a story told in the second person, this narrative will have three parts and today will be the first of it, I will talk about an important friend who was a merchant marine for more than 20 years where he met almost all the positions of the world.
Hola amigos de hive, hoy les traigo una historia contada en segunda persona, esta narrativa contara con tres partes y hoy será la primera de ella, hablara sobre un amigo importante que fue marino mercante por más de 20 años en donde conoció casi todos los puestos del mundo.
Ioannis Kurukafas born in Greece in the year 45 in a family with few opportunities due to economic issues, this young man with good learning ability at 18 joins the armed forces of that country, where he discovers his love for the sea. After completing his military service, he was unemployed and a friend told him that a bulk ship was looking for a crew, without knowing that this job would change his life completely.
Ioannis kurukafas nacido en Grecia en el año 45 en una familia de pocas oportunidades por temas económicos, este joven de buena capacidad de aprendizaje a sus 18 años se une a las fuerzas armadas de ese país, donde conoce su amor por el mar. Una vez cumplida el servicio militar se encontraba sin empleo y un amigo le comento que un barco de granel estaba buscando tripulación, sin saber que este empleo le cambiara la vida por completo.
One summer afternoon the ship was out at sea, I received a call to board and I was shocked as we went to the ship by helicopter, it was the first time I had flown. The ship for the time of 1953 was very large. Once on the ship they placed me as butler and kitchen assistant, which I liked a lot because I love cooking, a job that was dedicated because you had to keep meals and snacks up to date, and when you arrived at the port, equip the boat's reserves. without missing anything.
Una tarde de verano el barco se encontraba en mar adentro, recibí una llamada para abordar y me quedaba impactado ya que íbamos hasta el barco en helicóptero, era la primera vez que volaba. El barco para la época del 1953 era muy grande. Una vez en el barco me colocaron como mayordomo y ayudante de cocina lo cual me gustó mucho porque me encanta la cocina, un empleo que era de dedicación porque debías tener al día las comidas y meriendas, y al llegar al puerto equipar las reservas del barca sin que faltara nada.
My first trip was heading to the other side of the world, directly to Copa Cabana, Brazil. But not before making a stop at the port of New Orleans. It took about 18 days to the first port, unloading and then leaving for Brazil. It was the first time I got off at a port, everything was an incredible experience getting to know bars and women, you already know what life is like as a sailor.
On the way to Brazil we were going to the Panama Canal, an imposing construction that impressed me a lot because man had built a structure of such magnitude. The coast guards followed us to protect the safety of the boat, I quickly adapted to my work and colleagues, the atmosphere was very good and calm. Always with my camera taking pictures of everything I could, taking incredible photos for the time.
Mi primer viaje era rumbo al otro lado del mundo, directamente hacia copa cabana Brasil. Pero no sin antes hacer un parada en el puerto de New Orleans. Fueron alrededor de 18 días hasta el primer puerto haciendo una descarga para luego partir hacia Brasil. Fue la primera vez que me baje en un puerto, todo era una experiencia increíble conociendo bares y mujeres ya saben cómo es la vida de un marino.
Camino a Brasil íbamos hacia el canal de panamá, una construcción imponente y la cual me impresionó mucho porque el hombre había hecho una estructura de tal magnitud. Los guardas costas nos seguían para resguardar la seguridad de la embarcación, me adapte rápido a mis labores y compañeros, el ambiente era muy bueno y tranquilo. Siempre con mi cámara sacando foto de todo lo que podía teniendo fotos increíbles para la época.
You would arrive in Brazil, where we would last about 7 days to unload and equip the ship, it was in that port that I had my first experience of love, with a beautiful woman with whom I toured much of the city enjoying a bit of this job the which I saw as an opportunity to grow and have many experiences.
These photos are a treasure of the life of Ioannis (my great friend) in the other two parts of this story I will continue to share his experience narrated through me.
Llegarías a Brasil, donde duraríamos alrededor de unos 7 días para descargar y equipar el barco, fue en ese puerto que tuve mi primera experiencia de amor, con una bella mujer con la que recorrí gran parte de la ciudad disfrutando un poco de este empleo el cual lo vi como una oportunidad de crecer y tener muchas experiencias.
