After going to two frozen waterfalls in the last week (my last two posts), I planned on staying inside to relax. Until my friend Mike messaged me saying: I know it's short notice but do you want to go to Felkers falls in Stoney Creek Ont. today? It took only a few seconds of thought before I messaged back saying sure! With more than 100 waterfalls in the area (Hamilton is known as the waterfall capitol of the world) this is the only one that has an ice cave behind it in the winter. So Mike, my daughter and I hit the trail!
We reached the waterfall and were blown away with the beauty!
After soaking it all in, it was time to check out the cave inside of the ice!
A rock overhang leaves a large open space behind where the water falls and froze. The only issue with getting inside is the very slippery ice is the only thing to walk on or grab on to. So it is a slow climb, but very doable! Despite offering help and trying to "pump" my daughter up, she didn't feel brave enough to enter. So my friend and I took turns.
The ice and rock make for an incredible display of natures hidden beauty. It truly is a blessing to visit these incredible natural spots!
