This summer we went on a spontaneous roadtrip from Slovenia to Italy. Our goal was to reach the well know city on water Venice or as Italian would say "Venezia".
Since the island is super popular they've avoided big traffic jams and parking problems brilliantly. Before the bridge that connects the old town to the mainland, you can park the car before you get to the island. From there the bus, train or ideally boat will take you. Our intention to visit the Venice properly was to go by boat, but it was such a big crowd waiting and not well presented timetables, so in the end the local bus took us there way faster. It was a good choise, very cheap aka free.
Nontheless we've experienced boat ride through city canals with the authentic taxi boat. In the heat of the sun, it was so refreshing.
Venice came accross like a giantic labyrint with hundrets of side narrow streets wide only a meter. The city consist of many sea canals and even more small bridges. Everywhere there are small luxurious shops or markets with souveniers. The charm of Venice you can see in crowdy streets, colourful flowers on the balconies, unique venet style of building, smell of good coffee and food and beautifuly ornamented gondolas (small boats) giving rides to turists. You can visit museums, galleries, gigantic churches and interesting squares.
We've bought two postcards to our friends as this is rarly seen nowadays but amazing way to make someones day. In the city newspaper shop we found some international stamps but sadly old salesman scammed us. He sold us some useless special "friend" stamps. Try to avoid to fall into this trap.
Weather was super sunny and it was a pleasure exploring around the city. In front of big temple we found nice bar with memorable pirate looking bartender. Besides some biers we took also some delicious appetizers - tastes of smoked fish, pork belly, pistachio, honey. Italy is in culinary view really amazing.
City in general has so much to offer and it's very recommended to take maybe two or even three days to visit all the beautiful places. It's very photogenic place and allows you great creativity. Surely there are many more places to explore besides the mainstream attractions. Those are usually the best!
Our trip in Italy ended bittersweet as on last night someone broke into the car and stole the camera. All the pictures from the whole week trip were gone. We visited lots of cool places and it's a shame we lost this. For that we'll cherish this moments even more. Luckily we had our film camera with us as well, therefore in this post we present our different side. Some vintage looking film photography. It gives completely different vibe. Hope you'll enjoy this artistic ones as well!
