Danasan Eco Adventure Park is an outdoors park in the mountains of Danao, Cebu. It offers outdoor activities including zipline, horseback riding, atv rides, caving, wakeboarding, skybiking, waterfall rapelling and the ride that I regretted not trying - the skydrop. I'll tell you all about our adventure in a while. Let me share how to get there first:
It was my sister's birth month and my family realized that we hadn't gone on a trip in two years. My mom's been complaining about everything in the house and I took it as a sign that she was already bored at home. We had already planned to go to Danasan Eco Park last December 2020 and it was about time we actualized that plan of ours this year. This trip wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the blockchain. Thank you so much for making this possible!
We arranged for the room reservations a few days before our arrival date. Danasan Eco Park has both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned rooms for two and a group. Here are their room details and rates:
We also planned the rides/attractions that we were going to try prior to our coming there. Best to plan this ahead so you can make a budget schedule that works for you. Here are their rides and rates:
One thing that we didn't expect was how challenging the roads were going up the mountains. We'd prepared for the long ride, we'd prepared for the possibility of getting lost due to the confusing road but we weren't able to prepare for the road that we were up against. The driver had to turn off the air-conditioning for a while so that the van's machine could direct the efforts to the steep ascent. To be fair, the van was a bit old so maybe that contributed to the challenge that we faced on the road to the mountains. It didn't help that the signal for the Globe network was intermittent going up. The Smart signal is more reliable when you reach the mountain top. My grandma even exclaimed "I will never go back here again," realizing that her expectations of a smooth and short ride to the park was wrong. It took us 2 hours to finally arrive at our destination.
I was met with headaches and complaints from my mom and grandma because of the length of the ascent. It was also past lunch time, so maybe their grumpiness was "hanger" hunger + anger 😂 I didn't let them affect me because I made up my mind that we were going to have fun.
Why an adventure park, you ask? Well, it was my family's first time in the outdoors (except the beach) and I wanted us to make new memories with the experiences that we were about to take in. My family's not the active type but I was surprised to see how they rose up to the occasion when presented with the opportunity.
We went to the receptionist to check-in and it was clear that they were understaffed. I didn't make a fuss about it because I understood that it was the aftermath of a strict lockdown then. I later on found out that the management just laid off almost half of their staff because of the sad economic effects of COVID-19. Knowing that gave so much context about why we were served late. This is your friend in the internet reminding you to be kind, you guys. We never know what someone is going through. Let's think beyond our minor inconveniences.
So it begins. After having our tummies fed, the gang wanted to burn the calories straight away. Fun fact about my family, we're more of the indoor type of people. The closest thing to an adventure that we embarked on together was a beach resort (lame, I know). We were never the active outdoorsy type but I was surprised how they were game with the thought of us going to Danasan Eco-Park. The ate (big sister) in me felt fulfilled that she was able to treat her family to this all thanks to the blockchain. Seeing them try new things for the first time pulls my heartstrings. But enough about being sentimental, we're here to discover something new!
My brother and I wanted to give wall climbing a try, but for some reason it was closed off. We didn't bother to ask why but we guessed that it could be because they were short on staff. They prioritized major attractions for that day. There was still plenty to see and uncover, that's why we quickly moved on.
Because my grandmother didn't have the stamina for the extreme rides, we told her that she could swim here when she wants. It was about 4-5 ft. deep so it was pretty safe for her. We would have wanted to see her ride the sky drop but we didn't want to place her in harm's way so this cute pool should do.
So, was it worth the tumultuous ride?
We're still in part 1 so it's too early to tell. Keep an eye out for Part 2 in the coming days. It's bloody thrilling and dirty 😂 In the meantime smores, anyone?
