Hi everyone ..
How was the day? May you always be healthy and happy.
Some time ago I traveled to one of the mountains in Dieng, Central Java, Indonesia. This mountain with a height of 2,566 meters above sea level (Mdpl) is located on the Dieng plateau, precisely in Wonosobo district, Central Java. This mountain is called Mount Prau, a mountain that is a favorite of climbers and a suitable mountain for beginners.
This mountain is not a volcano, so it is not surprising that many climbers come non-stop. This mountain also does not have a crater, because it is still classified as a mound, the hill is usually called by climbers as Teletubbies Hill.
HOW LONG THE CLIMBING TAKES
Even though the estimated climbing time on Mount Prau can be 3-4 hours from basecamp to the peak, it cannot be denied that the time can vary depending on which route you take.
There are various routes to the top of Prau, there are climbing routes via Kalilembu, via Igirmranak, via Wates, via Dwarawati, via Patak Banteng and finally via Dieng. If you go via Kalilembu the estimated climbing time can reach 3 hours 20 minutes, and if you go via Igirmranak it can reach 4 hours, then if you go via Wates it can reach 3 hours 30 minutes, if you go via Dwarawati the climbing time can reach 3 hours, and if you go via Patak Banteng you can reach 4 hours, then the last one via Dieng can be a 3-4 hour journey.
It should be noted that the estimated climbing time does not include how often a climber stops to rest and how long they will rest. Apart from that, the estimated time also does not take into account a person's physical condition. Like whether they can climb quickly and so on.
CLIMBING TRAVEL VIA PATAK BANTENG
My friends and I chose to travel via Patak Banteng, because this route is the route most traveled by cyclists. This route is a favorite route because the distance is quite short to the top, the estimated time is 4 hours including rest and a leisurely walk
We prepared in the morning to make this trip. Previously we stayed at an inn which was close to the mountains, because there were several friends who chose to go to Sikunir and some to Mount Prau. Me and 4 of my friends chose to climb Mount Prau. Because the climb only takes a day, we only brought some snacks and drinking water. With thorough preparation we made the climb. Just a note, on Mount Prau there is no spring. so make sure you bring enough water during the climb.
Our initial journey started from basecamp by registering so that we were registered as climbers at that time, just in case something happened. Registering for a climb on Mount Prau is not that complicated, just pay cash and you can start the trip straight away. Specific requirements are written on a poster attached to the basecamp, which contains rules and restrictions that must be obeyed while on Mount Prau.
After registering, we started to climb. Because it was still very early in the morning, visibility was still limited. Starting with a small breakfast we continued our journey.
BASECAMP - POS I
From basecamp we traveled to POS I by passing through the village, where you could clearly see the sign to the top of Prau. About 500m – 1km after the residents' village, we were presented with rice fields belonging to the residents. The views were very beautiful and beautiful, pampering our eyes, and the air was very cool. After passing through the rice fields, we walked along a fairly rocky road for approximately 15 minutes until we finally arrived at POS I.
POS I is a small hut for climbers to rest, here there are often somay traders selling. We decided to just rest for a while and then continue our journey.
POS I – POS II
To continue the journey from POS I to POS II, we turned left and passed through the rice fields with views of the rice fields on the left and right and the forest in front. The journey to POS II doesn't take much time, only around 15-30 minutes using a ground route in the form of stairs.
When heading to POS II we were presented with a shop on the left, this shop will be open when the climb is busy. 20m from the shop, POS II is clearly visible. POS II is in the form of a small field that can fit up to 2 tents and in front of it is a Prau mountain forest with dominating pine and fir trees. Usually the climbers immediately continue the journey, as well as us who also immediately continued the journey.
POS II – POS III
From POS II to POS III the journey starts uphill and steep, the track is land with rocks. We have to be careful because this track is very slippery especially when it rains. I even slipped many times because of the slippery road.
The trip to POS III is only presented with views of the forest, so climbers will usually feel bored because only trees are visible. Because this also made the journey to POS III feel very difficult and long, it even took us almost an hour to travel.
POS III is in the form of a field that is not very large, the same as the previous POS II. It is recommended to rest for a while because previously the journey was quite tiring.
POS III – TELETUBIES HILL
The journey after POS III becomes steeper and steeper. This trip goes to Teletubbies Hill, why is it called Teletubbies Hill? Because the hill is very similar to the hill in the Teletuubies cartoon. Beautiful and wide hill.
The journey from POS III is very tiring, steep and steep roads make us even more careful because there is no handrail around it. The time taken is approximately 30 minutes with steep paths. And about 15 minutes drive to Teletubies Hill. As we headed up the hill, we were presented with a beautiful view of Mount Sindoro and the village of Dieng. Even more beautiful if the weather is sunny.
This journey is quite tiring and very draining. But happiness comes when we start walking on a gentle path, that means we will arrive soon. We walked the path and we were presented with Daisy flowers which were lined up very beautifully and neatly. The flower that dominates Mount Prau. Usually the flowers that live on the mountain are Edelweiss like mountains in general, but not with Mount Prau, because Daisy is the Queen!
The Teletubbies Hill is a vast mound of hills with beautiful views. This vast land is also used as a camping place for climbers, they are free to choose a place with a view as they like. It is on this hill that climbers usually capture the moment of the sun that appears on Mount Prau and on this hill climbers also capture the moment when Mount Sindoro, Mount Sumbing, Mount Merapi and Mount Lawu are close to each other. These mountains are the main attraction why Mount Prau is a popular climbing destination.
TELETUBIES HILL – PEAK
The journey from Teletubies Hill to the top is not far, because it only takes 5 minutes to reach the top. At the top of Mount Prau you will see a small plate that reads "Puncak 2565". If you've got here, congratulations you've reached the top.
But we were unlucky, because our trip was full of fog so we didn't get the view. We hope that one day we can come back and have beautiful moments at the top of Mount Prau.
Best Regards,
Tina K Harnis.
