Today was one of my best days in Thailand my boss called me early this morning and said to me that the parts had not arrived for this particular car, I am restoring so he said to me take the day off and go enjoy yourself, go over to Koh Larn Island he said to me, I told him your a good man thanks, but I think Koh Larn, is still closed up but he informed me that it had re-opened for tourist last weekend this got me excited because, I have been looking at this island from my rooftop for 3 years and although, it is not far from Pattaya city only a less then one hour ferry trip over there and only a 25 minutes by speedboat but I just hadn't had the time to go there due to either been busy or the covid lockdowns messing it up every time I had the chance to go over there, so today was my opportunity and I took it.
I knew there was a 9am ferry leaving from the Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya and the next ferry at 11am, so I garbed myself a towel, swimmers and my cap raced out the door jumped on a truck taxi (Baht bus) which is only 30 cents which gets you close to the pier then a short walk, I purchased my ferry ticket which was $1 US dollar this would get you on the ferry to Koh Larn Island in just under one hour, if you were to take the speedboat it would cost you $12 US dollars, but I was in no hurry, I wanted to enjoy the Gulf of Thailand scenery along the way without getting bounced out of the speedboat and I could take some photos along the way which you couldn't do in a speedboat without them been all blurred.
We arrived at Koh Larn Island in 50 minutes it was a very smooth ride under them beautiful white clouds and blue sky, it was certainly the right day to be visiting this Island. Koh Larn, is 7.5 kilometers west of Pattaya Beach, the island has six main beaches and a few smaller ones that are not mentioned and every one of these beaches you walk on will have white powdery sand and the waters are turquoise color crystal clear drinkable, if it wasn't salt water.
Arriving at the Koh Larn Pier, I walked along the pier you can either keep going straight ahead which will take you to the main and most popular beach on Koh Larn or you can do a right turn onto this wooden walkway bridge which will take you to a more private quieter beach called Tawaen Beach and it was this beach that I chose only because it had more of that real tropical look and just looked perfect to be laying on that white sand with the clear turquoise water brushing up against you keeping you cool.
Walking into the Tawaen Beach chill out bar and reception really blow me out the way they had it set up apart from the nice lounges, tables and decor they had these bathtubs facing the sea were you could sit in them suck on cocktails or beers all day and not worry about going home just crash out in the bathtub this was amazing the ideas these people come up with.
And if that wasn't enough to blow me away as I walked on further out of the chill out bar towards the accommodation area, it looked like I was entering Nasa Headquarters with all these space capsules laying around but at first I wasn't sure if they were really sleeping quarters till I got around to the front of them.
These were really a neat set up fully air-conditioned, double bed, mini bar fridge, toilet-shower with the best views facing the sea could you imagine looking at the sunset of a evening and looking at the stars by night out of your space capsule and the cost per/night for these space capsules was $60 US dollars including breakfast.
This Tawaen Beach Resort was all done in a beautifully unique style a place you would remember and talk about to friends, it had everything you needed there was comfort, great views, all the types of food you needed Western, European and Thai and best of all the most amazing white sand beach that I have seen in a long time.
The Reggae Bar was just as equally nice a perfect spot to listen to some chill out music and just enjoy the surrounding.
This is a perfect little piece of paradise for people who are working and living in Pattaya city like me, to get away for a day or weekend from the hustle and bustle of Pattaya city, I certainly will be visiting this island more often been a short distance away a cheap boat ride and more beaches to explore, I will definitely be going back to see more.
My day was over sadly but it was a very enjoyable one did a lot of walking around the island had a great swim in that clear turquoise water and ate some great Thai food and now it was time to go back, I got the last ferry back which was 5pm another smooth journey back to Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya City. A great day had and will go back again shortly to see more now that island has re-opened.
