My time in Phuket city last week was used up very well in the 3 days we were there, I was there with my work colleague picking up a vintage car for our boss an unexpected problem occurred and we had to wait 3 days before we could load up this car on our car trailer and head back to Pattaya city, so we decided to take advantage of our time and when touring around Phuket city we ended up seeing some temples and beaches and then we even managed to take a hike up through the Kathu Jungle where we, were to find the huge White Sitting Buddha along the way.
We decided to hire a Honda Click motorbike each costing us ($6 US) each for the day we figured we would do this, as to get up this jungle mountain much easier, instead of taking the big pick-up truck, that we drove from Pattaya city to Phuket city we figured a bit of bike riding would be more fun.
Once we got ourselves sorted with the motorbikes we got our bearing in order and followed google map heading out to what the Thai's call the "Spirit Mountain" in Kathu Village which was less then a 10 km drive, halfway between Phuket Town and Patong Beach. Kathu Village is only small village, if you blink you will miss it but looked like a very quite and peaceful little village we didn't make any stop there as we had a lot to explore on the Spirit Mountain and we didn't have a great deal of time been our last day here in Phuket city.
As we got to the base of this spirit mountain, it started to rain normal for this time of the year, after all, it is the wet season here at the moment but it made, it a bit of a worry for the motorbikes whether we would be able to ride up this steep wet mountain in the wet so we decided to drive up the mountain at, a little faster speed so the wheels wouldn't start spinning and end up going backwards, we got about half way up this mountain and then decided to park the bikes and walk the rest of the way so we could get a better view of the nature around us.
As we were walking along these winding walkways around this huge mountain, I could smell the freshness of this lush green jungle this was jungle, I had never seen before, these were untouched terrains, nature here was left free to do want it wanted very nice to see this.
Here the forest is protected all these orange cloths you see wrapped around these trees have been done by the Monks and the Thai people will not dare cut or harm these trees as they believe it will either bring death to them or a life of bad luck is why this jungle, is so beautiful, healthy and lush green.
As we were making our climb up along the walkways to the White Sitting Buddha the rain had stopped leaving the jungle wet and the plants and flowers were all looking full of life standing up with water droplets hanging of the leaves and flowers it just looked awesome, I love the looks of a garden or jungle after the rain, everything just looks so lively.
Having walked up this mountain now for almost 2 km along that winding pathway we see the sign to the White Sitting Buddha which was by a little waterfall up the stone staircase we go across a little wooden bridge and here, it was the big White Sitting Buddha waiting for us to pay our respects asked to keep us safe while on the mountain and then moved on.
The posture of this White Sitting Buddha represents peace, calmness and teaching. Thai people will come up here on this mountain to sit by this huge White Buddha to do there meditation and attempt to reach enlightenment and pray for good health and well being.
At this point we were almost on the peak of this mountain so we continued further up the mountain we figured we have come this far lets see what the views are like from the peak, reaching the top all we could see was a range of mountains around us no city or town views but more beautiful never the less.
Me I would have called this the Magical Mountain everywhere, I looked were plants, flowers and trees that, I have never seen before, I was just in complete maze and awe just been amongst the beauty of all this mother nature the perfect place to escape from Covid that's for sure.
The variety of plant life up here was really something to see, I just could not keep my eyes of all these stunning plant life, it was growing up trees around rocks, it was just all over on the run free to go where ever it wanted.
Apparently we discovered that they are some very nice waterfalls around this mountain but we did not have enough time to go looking for them, we had to start making our decent back down the mountain before dark, it was already 4pm afternoon and we had a long decent back down to our motorbikes we had seen and down what we came for and it's certainly one mountain, I will not forget.
