Fireworks party, gathering with extended family and cooking delicious food, gathering with coworkers outside, gathering in the city center and counting down the seconds of the new year, etc.
Looks so fun!
But, this was my first time celebrating the new year's eve with my friends. From childhood to young, I prefer New Year's edition television shows which are more exciting than fireworks. As an adult, I was busy working. It seemed, celebrating the new year outside was very unpleasant. LOL.
My New Friend, Erni
Erni and I became friends because we both like to climb mountains. He was the one who took me camping at Masigit Kareumbi on New Year's Eve. At first I refused, because as far as I know, at the moment of the turn of the year, the mountains are also full of climbers.
Masigit Kareumbi is different!
So, Erni and I departed from Ujung Berung, Bandung to Tanjungwangi village, Cicalengka. Because the distance is quite far and the terrain to the last village is quite difficult, so, we decided to use a motorbike.
The estimate from Ujung Berung to Tanjungwangi is about four hours by motorbike.
Meet other Members
It's been raining since morning in Bandung. Finally, Erni and I just departed from Ujung Berung at 02.00 p.m. After buying logistical needs at Yogya Mart, we went straight to Padjadjaran University in Jatinangor to meet other members.
At the Faculty of Animal Science, Padjadjaran University, the unit knows the environment, we borrowed a tent and some other climbing equipment, after meeting Nafis and Asri, we immediately packed up and left for Cicalengka.
Slippery road
The road from Jatinangor to Cicalengka is not too crowded, along the way the rain continues to fall. We ride our motorbikes carefully.
After arriving at the last village, Leuwiliang village, the rain stopped. However, the road in front of us was not easy to walk in after the rain. Coral rock with a distance of about three kilometers.
Nafi and I decided to walk along the coral stone track, while Erni and Asri struggled to ride their motorbikes, being careful not to slip.
The air was very cool, so it was no problem for me and Nafi to walk along it. Especially Nafi, she had won a fast walking competition when she was in college, so she felt happy. We both exchanged stories. Even though it was the first time we met, Nafi was a kind and warm person.
Every now and then we would stop while waiting for two motorbikes behind us. Imagine! Walking is faster than riding a motorbike on this track. LOL.
Around 05.00 p.m, we arrived at the parking lot. The terrain that we will go through is not uphill, we will only walk through the forest and two rivers in the Masigit Kareumbi Buru Park (TBMK).
Welcome, Forest
Masigit Kareumbi Hunting Park has a forest area of 12,420 hectares. Named as Kareumbi, because according to the story, there used to be many Kareumbi trees in this mountain area. I didn't find out what the Kareumbi tree looked like.
This location is often used for camping activities by nature lovers communities. In 2018, Eiger Indonesia held a camp in the context of the Eiger Mountain and Jungle which was held for about eight days.
Different from the location the Eiger used, we set up camp deep into the forest. After dark, around 9:00 p.m. We arrived at campground. There were only about four other tents already there.
I immediately unpacked the bag, took out the tent. Nafis and Asri are in charge of cooking for dinner, while Erni and I are in charge of setting up a tent.
Campfire
After dinner and the tent was ready, Jasmin, Erni's friend who had arrived first with her group, invited us to join and warm up by the campfire.
Time is getting closer to the turn of the year. There is no noise, no music, only the sound of dew, leaves, and nocturnal animals. We spent the rest of the year chatting deeply, and Jasmine occasionally sang softly to cheer us up.
Happy New Year!
Morning on the first day of the new year. We got up and prepared breakfast, the dew was still falling on the leaves. Cool air. The fog was low and the sun had not yet risen.
Erni and Asri went down to the river to fetch water. Me and Nafis cook. We had breakfast, made coffee and enjoyed the fresh air of Masigit Kareumbi.
At 10.00 a.m. we decided to pack up so it wouldn't be too late to arrive in Bandung. I have to go back to Jakarta for work.
Thank you, Erni, Jasmin, Asri, and Nafis.
