Let's explore together Cârța Monastery, a Cistercian Monastery in Romania built in 1202
Hello everyone
We were on our way to Ploiesti heading towards our friends, sitting in the car for minutes concentrating on the infernal traffic we encountered on certain stretches of road, it suddenly came to my mind that somewhere not far from the route we were following some time ago I had found a place I really wanted to visit.
So I quickly did some research on the internet to see approximately how long we would be off the road (I don't really like driving at night on this stretch of road, there is a lot of vegetation and forest, the road somehow passing through the middle of the field this can be a danger for me because of wild animals that actually appear in front of you when you don't even expect, being able to make a car accident at any moment).
So, we made the decision to visit the Cârța Monastery, located in the commune with the same name, Cârța in Sibiu county.
From the road in 2-3 kilometers you already get here, as a reference Sibiu is somewhere 60 kilometers away or if you are heading to Transfagarasan (one of the most spectacular roads in Romania) you can easily get here.
I want you to know that from the pictures I've seen on the internet I have some expectations of what this place will actually look like, I want it to surprise me in a pleasant way.
The village itself I liked very much, well maintained houses, on the streets were planted many flowers, cleanliness, I can say that even now I like how this place looks.
Not after a long time we arrive right in front of the monastery and across the road we find a place to leave the car, it is a kind of parking lot.
Determined I headed towards the entrance to pay the entrance fee and was eager to start exploring.
As I passed through a wooden gate I was surprised by the silence here, even though there were quite a few tourists visiting the monastery there was a silence that surprised me.
The entrance ticket here cost me 10lei/2euro/person a super good price compared to how amazing this place is.
Visiting hours are March-September 10-19 and October-February 10-17.
Let the exploration begin.
From the old monastery only a few ruins remain, the only place that is still used is the chapel, the monastery was built in 1202.
Walking along the thick stone walls, seemingly melted by the passage of time, we found a cemetery where German soldiers who fought in World War II and died here were buried, and somewhere in the middle of the cemetery, in pride of place is the statue of Roland who seems to watch over them all.
Let's take a walk around the chapel.
Also here we found the parish house which is supplied with spring water.
Let's take a walk through the courtyard of the monastery, honestly I found here more than I expected, so in conclusion if somehow you are in Sibiu county or heading to Brasov do not forget to schedule a visit here, really worth the experience.
If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.
P.S. The attached pictures you have just seen are taken by me with my mobile phone, and the text is also designed by me.
