Let's visit together the Medieval Fortress of Mălăiești in Hunedoara County, Romania
Hello friends from around the world
The weekend that just ended we decided to visit some tourist attractions in Hunedoara County, a county two hours from where I live.
So today we are going to take a foray into the history of the place from about 600 years ago, to visit the medieval fortress Mălăiești.
The Medieval Fortress Mălăiești is situated in the village of the same name, commune Sălașu de Sus, Hunedoara county.
Until we got here we passed through some very beautiful areas with endless forests, even very close to the entrance to the fortress there is a parking lot where you can leave your car.
Visiting hours are Monday-Thursday 09-15, Friday 09-14, and Saturday-Sunday 10-18, and the entrance fee for an adult is 10 lei/2euro.
Okay, we've parked the car, paid the entrance fee, so let's go to the fortress, and to get to the fortress we have to follow a cubic stone alley and after a few minutes' walk we arrive in front of the fortress, which is on top of a hill.
History of the Malaiești Fortress
The fortress of Mălăiești was built towards the end of the 14th century by the Sărăcin counts. Initially a keep was built, to which were added defensive walls, three other towers and a belfry: one at the gate, another flanking and a watchtower. The donjon, the tallest of the towers, served as a firing point and shelter. It was 11 meters high and its walls were one and a half meters thick. The entrance, located on the west side, on the first floor, was accessed by a wooden ladder that was raised in case of attack.
Let's take a look at the inner courtyard of the fortress.
Let's have a look from the only tower left standing.
If you come here you will find this book where you can find all the information about the fauna and flora here.
My dears, our day of exploration of the Malaiești fortress has come to an end.
