Walking in the footsteps of the past through the Făgăraș Fortress in Brasov County, Romania
"People don't 'make' journeys - journeys make people..."- John Steinbeck
Hello dear followers and visitors I hope you are well and can't wait to peek and see what places you have explored.
Today's post I want to take us on the traces of Romanian history but especially of the fortresses and customs of those times, yes, we will visit one of the best preserved fortresses in Romania, both outside and inside.
In this corner of Romania we arrived by personal car, it is one of the most convenient options, we crossed landscapes as in stories, I forgot to tell you that I was here in February this year and as you can see on the side of the road there is a lot of snow (here in the mountain area we were lucky to see snow in our western Romania no trace of it).
Where is the fortress located?
The fortress is located in the town of Fagaras, Brasov county, Romania, in case you decide to visit it the exact address is Mihai Viteazul street 1, Fagaras.
Operating schedule:
Between April-September Mondays closed
Tuesday-Friday:8-18
Saturday-Sunday:10-18
During the winter timetable the visit of the fortress is reduced by one hour.
Entrance fee:
-adults:30lei
-Students:10lei
-pensioners:15lei
In order to film or photograph for my holiday photo collection I did not have to pay any extra fee, but professional photography or filming is subject to fees.
Inside the fortress you can connect to the WiFi there which is free, password from what I remember is "cetateafagarasului".
I can say that I have often passed through Fagaras and from a distance I sometimes saw the fortress and a church whose dome gives you the impression that it is gilded, but I never had time to visit it, so I noted it on the short list of sights in Brasov county and now it's her turn, hehe.
We left the car in the parking lot in front of the fortress, and the access to the fortress we did on a long wooden bridge that crossed a river, we almost passed by the ticket office, I actually did not notice, it seemed to be hidden.
If you are a group of more than 15 people, you can ask for a guide to lead you through the fortress and understand more quickly and better everything you see there.
Let the exploration of the fortress begin
First we visited the inner courtyard of the fortress, a beautiful courtyard where you can distinguish the imposing walls of the fortress and the defensive walls but we didn't stay too long outside as it was quite cold (-1 degree) so we took a walk inside the fortress, the fortress inside is grouped into several themed places.
This is the church whose dome gives the impression that it is gilded.
As soon as we stepped inside the fortress we were instructed to wear some kind of protection over our footwear to protect the places where we walk.
The first room we entered was The Prison Tower, the place where those on trial were imprisoned and tortured, today it still gives you the creeps.
We continue our visit with the Throne Room, a place with a Bohemian air, we were speechless.
We leave behind the Throne Hall and go to visit the Museum of Fagaras, Valer Literat, and here we could see many exhibits representing Romanian traditions, a real pleasure to walk among these exhibits.
Also here you will find a souvenir shop where you will definitely find something to buy.
My dear friends today's post ends here I hope you will enjoy this fortress, and at the end I leave you some pictures taken from the drone.
If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.
