We explored the fame of gold in the Gold Souq in Deira, Dubai
Hello travelers
Lately I've been blogging on the community blog about the amazing places we've been to, showing you our experiences here, sights, prices, tips, transportation and more, but I figured a visit to Dubai can't be complete without visiting the Gold Souk and Spice Market.
If you've stopped by my blog you've seen that I've uploaded another blog about a very beautiful traditional market in the Bur Dubai neighborhood so not very far from that market we'll go to the most important market in Dubai, Gold Souk.
Honestly, I've never seen so much gold displayed for sale in a market, but before we got there, we wandered a bit through the winding streets of these neighborhoods, finally helped by Google and also by the signs on some streets, we reached our destination.
Now, some of you are wondering if the tons of gold in the market are real, if the gold is authentic, if they are paying for gold and getting candy, but wait, I have the answer to those questions, after talking to several gold sellers, everything you see there is 100% authentic, because the Dubai government is very demanding in this regard and no seller can afford to destroy the tradition of selling gold, because many of the sellers have been there for a very long time, family businesses passed down from generation to generation.
If you ever visit the gold market you must know that here everything is negotiated, yes, even the gram of gold is negotiated, even so the prices of the gram of gold here in Gold Souk are very affordable, frankly the gold here is cheaper than in my country (Romania), I am not an expert in gold, but I compared the gram of gold in Romania with the gram of gold here, with the same karats (I think that's how it's called, I hope I'm not wrong) and it was significantly cheaper.
Let's take a few steps through the gold market.
Gold Souk has several entrances, we went through gate 1 and gate 2, I honestly don't know if it has other gates, but the idea is to get into the market and explore the gold, platinum or even silver jewelry.
Do you know where we can see the world's biggest gold ring in the Guinness Book?
I think you've figured it out.
Yes, here in Gold Souk, there is the gold ring (I think it was more than 60 kilograms of gold) decorated with Swarovski crystals (and these crystals are in the order of kilograms), and yes, it is for sale.
In addition to the fact that the Gold Souk sells a lot of gold and other precious metals every day, this place is very touristy, so I had to wait more than 15 minutes in a row to take pictures of the Guinness Book of World Records ring.
I have a favorite picture, hehe.
The experience in this market was an amazing one and if you like gold this is the perfect place for you, my friends we have finished visiting Gold Souk, but before we leave for the hotel I will leave you some pictures of the spice market (and this is huge) as it was close by (I don't leave many pictures to avoid confusion, in the idea that in the market in Bur Dubai and in this one in Deira are sold pretty much the same products and I don't want to be accused of using the same pictures in several posts).
The drive to the hotel was quite long and we got a bit hungry, so we found something to eat at the right price in Dubai Marina.
THE END!
