Hello.
How are you all my dear friends. I hope you are all fine. In today's post, I have shared with you Photographs of Beautiful view of Leh City from Leh Palace. Leh Palace is a famous and spectacular palace located in Leh. Which is built on the top of a mountain. Standing on top of Leh Palace, the entire Leh City can be seen. There are many myths and legends associated with Leh Palace.
Leh Palace is a historic royal palace that overlooks the city of Leh-Ladakh amidst the magnificent Himalayan mountain range. Sengge Namgyal built this majestic palace in 1600. The Dogra army took control of Ladakh in the mid-19th century, completely abandoning this beautiful palace, while the royal family relocated to the Stoke Palace. The palace is under the care and restoration initiative of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Leh Palace is 4.5 km away from Leh airport and can be reached by road. You can also hire a cab from the airport to reach the palace. Leh Palace is also 2.2 km away from the city center in Leh. The palace remains open to the general public. Its terrace offers mesmerizing views of Leh and its surrounding areas. It is almost impossible to estimate the real value of Leh Palace, which is priceless in every sense.
The Leh Palace is six storeys high, with the upper floors formerly accommodating the royal family, while the lower floors housed store rooms and stables. A large part of Leh Palace is dilapidated, although the Palace Museum houses a fascinating collection of ornaments, jewelery, crowns and ceremonial dress, along with Tibetan paintings or thangka, which date back 450 years.
The intricate designs and vibrant colors are derived from powdered and crushed stones and gems. The structures around the base of the palace include the famous Namgyal Stupa and the Chandajik Gompa and Chamba Lhakhang with its beautiful frescoes that date back to 1430. Some remains of medieval era frescoes still exist here.
In the early 15th century, King Drapa Bumde of Ladakh first built Leho, a small residence for the royal family on a mountain range overlooking the main city, along with fortifications. The king also established Buddhist temples, two of them within the walls of the old city and the other on Tsemo Peak, a mountain nearby, next to the palace. Around the 17th century, Leh transformed into the capital of the Ladakh Himalayan kingdom, which controlled a large part of western Tibet. King Sengge Namgyal built the Leh Palace at this time and it was also known as Lachen Palkar Palace.
The architecture of Leh Palace draws inspiration from the Potala Palace in Lhasa with medieval Tibetan design styles. The building offers panoramic views of the city, with the picturesque Stok Kangri Mountains in the background. Leh Palace is often said to be a forgotten monument, as it was once again abandoned after General Zorawar Singh and members of the Dogra dynasty fled after repeated attacks by forces from Baltistan and Tibet.
At the time of construction of Leh Palace, it was the tallest building in the world. The view of Leh Palace in the dark from afar creates a magical effect after sunset. The façade is wonderfully illuminated by its own golden light.
