Hello, dear community, I hope you are all well. On this pleasant occasion, I want to share with you, albeit a bit late, some photographs of Holy Week in the town of Villa de Cura, here in Aragua. I hope you enjoy them.
Hola, queridísima comunidad, espero que se encuentren bien. En esta grata oportunidad, quiero compartirles, aunque algo tarde, unas fotografías de lo que fue la Semana Santa en el pueblo de Villa de Cura, aquí en Aragua. Espero que les agraden.
This was my first Holy Week in Villa de Cura. I had always heard about this town and how religious it is. Thank God, I had the opportunity to attend thanks to a friend who invited me to participate in a service that consisted of handing out bags of bread to the people carrying the religious statues and helping with logistics. My adventure began on Good Friday at six in the morning, when I headed to the bus terminal to catch the first van to town.
Esta fue mi primera Semana Santa en Villa de Cura. Siempre había escuchado sobre este pueblo y lo religioso que es, Gracias a Dios, tuve la oportunidad de asistir por una amiga que me invitó a participar en un servicio que consistía en entregar una bolsa de panes a las personas que estaban cargando los santos y ayudar con la logística. Mi aventura comenzó el Viernes Santo a las seis de la mañana, cuando me dirigía al terminal para tomar la primera camioneta hacia el pueblo.
The drive to the town took about two hours and was quite impressive for me, as we passed close to Lake Valencia and I saw a part of the lake I'd never seen before. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any pictures because the truck was going so fast. One of the sights that impressed me most was a small farm facing the lake, where horses roamed freely along the shores; it was truly beautiful, like something out of a movie. We continued on, and I was quite nervous, as it was my first time traveling alone to a town. Finally, around 8:30 in the morning, I arrived at the main square of Villa de Cura, in front of the cathedral.
El camino hacia el pueblo, fueron como dos horas, fue bastante impactante para mí, ya que pasamos cerca del Lago de Valencia y vi una parte del lago que nunca había visto antes. Lamentablemente, no pude tomar fotos porque la camioneta iba muy rápido. Uno de los paisajes que más me impresionó fue el de una pequeña finca frente al lago, donde los caballos corrían libremente por las orillas,fue algo muy hermoso, como sacado de una película. Continuamos adelante y yo estaba bastante nerviosa, ya que era mi primera vez viajando sola hacia un pueblo. Finalmente, alrededor de las 8:30 de la mañana, llegué a la plaza de Villa de Cura, frente a la catedral.
The Holy Sepulchre procession had already begun and could be seen on the screens in front of the cathedral. I waited a while in the square for my friend, eating something, until she arrived and we began the service. There were so many people in the procession; numerous consecrations could be seen, not only of the main cathedral, but also of other churches in the town and nearby villages. There were also people fulfilling vows in different ways, mainly dressed as penitents or kneeling as they walked, and in some extreme cases, flagellating themselves. I was able to get very close to the bearers and learn a little about their history; most of them are family traditions that have been carrying out these activities for more than 10 years. Seeing the feeling of the townspeople and their great devotion was something that deeply impacted me.
Ya había comenzado la procesión del Santo Sepulcro y se podía ver en las pantallas frente a la catedral. Me quedé esperando un rato en la plaza a mi amiga, mientras comía algo, hasta que llegó y empezamos el servicio.Había muchísima gente en la procesión; se podían observar numerosas consagraciones, no solo de la catedral principal, sino también de otras iglesias del pueblo y de las aldeas cercanas. También había personas cumpliendo promesas de diferentes maneras, principalmente vestidas de nazareno o arrodillándose mientras caminaban, y en algunos casos extremos, flagelándose. Pude acercarme mucho a los cargadores y conocer un poco de su historia; la mayoría son tradiciones familiares que llevan más de 10 años realizando este tipo de actividades. Ver el sentimiento de la gente del pueblo y su gran devoción fue algo que me impactó profundamente.

But what truly captured my attention, and what I will never forget, was hearing the band play as they processed and seeing the Holy Sepulchre, Our Lady of Sorrows, and Saint John approaching. It's inexplicable and difficult for me to describe what I felt at that moment. Suddenly, I began to cry and thank God for everything that had happened to me in recent months and years, both the good and the bad. I felt immense peace; it was like speaking face to face with Him.
Pero lo que definitivamente capturó toda mi atención y fue una experiencia que no olvidaré, fue escuchar a la banda mientras tocaban en procesión y ver acercarse al Santo Sepulcro, la Dolorosa y San Juan. Es algo inexplicable y difícil de describir para mí lo que sentí en ese momento. De repente, comencé a llorar y a dar gracias a Dios por todas las cosas que me habían sucedido en estos meses y en los años anteriores de mi vida, tanto por lo bueno como por lo malo. Sentía una paz inmensa, era como hablar cara a cara con Él.
This experience in Villa de Cura is a gift that touched my heart. I don't regret accepting my friend's invitation at all, because all the wonderful things I experienced there, the warm and welcoming people, and the unique atmosphere definitely make this an experience I wholeheartedly recommend, at least for someone to experience once in their life.
Esta experiencia en Villa de Cura es un regalo que me llegó al corazón. No me arrepiento de haber aceptado la propuesta de mi amiga, ya que todo lo bueno que viví allí, la gente tan hogareña y el ambiente tan distinto, definitivamente hacen de esta una experiencia que recomiendo sin duda alguna, al menos para vivirla una vez en la vida.
