Radhe Radhe everyone!
I have accepted the #winterchallenge started by our very own and respected community and today's blog is about winter expedition at Ladakh.
DRANG DRUNG GLACIER
With every passing seconds, a new view unfolds in front of you once you are at Ladakh. No wonder why its know for beautiful landscape, glaciers and blue lakes. Today we are at Drang-Drung glacier and which is the second largest glacier in Ladakh and third largest in India. For a second I thought I'm dreaming but as cold wind punched me in the face ,I was wide awake and extremely happy. If someone ask me what is heavy and how it looks like I'll show them Drang-Drung glacier.
The MESMERIZING ROAD
More beautiful the destination, more difficult it becomes to reach it. The weather condition and the high altitude road made it difficult for us ,but we didn't gave up. Moreover it was fun driving here, the road was like silk ,so smooth with lots of curves. From our last destination which was God's Mountains we drove towards Pensi La which is nearly 35 kilometres away. From Pensi La pass, the paranomic view of the glacier is visible and it attracted you toward itself.
VIEW OF DRANG DRUNG GLACIER FROM PENSI LA
We got to witnesses this majestic view after driving for 2 hours and our jaw dropped as we saw the ice cap. Man, we were so happy, excited and what not. We coud'nt wait to see it up close.
At Kargil District this beauty is situated between the Zanskar and Suru valley. After the Saichen Glacier it's the second largest glacier in Ladakh. Cause it's remote it's almost untouched and offers the paranomic view. For those whole loves to take pictures it's a paradise as you will see beauty all arround you. It's support few species specially those who are capable of living at such cold condition likeblue ship and snow leopard. The temperature of Drang-Drung glacier is in negative which makes it difficult to get closer to it. All you can see it rugged mountains and high peaks covered in show all around the glacier, which makes it challenging and most rewarding trek for nature enthusiast and trekkers.
THE FROZEN STOD RIVER
What I saw was unbelievable!
The 2nd largest glacier in Ladakh and 3rd largest in India was in front on me along with the river which was completely frozen. This glacier at the Northern Himalayan Range is biggest source of fresh water and its the origin of numerous river specially Indus, which have turquoise water in it. This glacier took thousands of years for formation as turning the snowfall kept turning into the ice. After Saichen Glacier and Gangotri this glacier has great contribution in forming rivers at Ladakh and support life and agriculture of the area. The Stod river originating from the glacier remain frozen almost every seasons cause of the high altitude, low sunlight and freezing temperature. With seasons its appearance change as you all may know and I think I have reached here at the perfect seasons, perfect timing and at perfect weather.
THE 3RD LARGEST GLACIER IN INDIA
During summers the majestic grandeur of the glacier is visible and during winters as you can see its totally covered with snow. The altitude of the place is 4400 meters making it difficult for visitors. Also the oxygen is low here as air is thin as proper acclimatization is required for the survival. This beauty is untouched and
understudied cause it's too remote, i guess its natures way of protection. This breathtaking natural wonder was worth visiting.
I hope you enjoy the blog and love the picture taken by me with my camera.
