If you have a flight Connection in Panama, I recommend you to extend your connection time to 8 or maybe 10 hours. I did it and love it. Panama City is a great location to spend some hours and have some cultural immerse on the so called Central America Miami.
City has a lot of shopping malls and tax free. You can purchase lot of gadgets, cloths and perfume with low cost.
But I was not looking for that, I always wanted to see the Panama's Canal and how large Ships cross the canal using lock.
Our itinerary was great, First we went to Miraflores Museum, where we could see how it was construct and the issues during it. Also, lot of new animal species where discovered. Yes, BIG size bugs!
The Panama Canal locks are a lock system that lifts ships up 85 feet (26 metres) to the main elevation of the Panama Canal and down again.
We appreciate that while have tasty lunch at lock's restaurant.
After that we ask a taxi driver to tour guide us. As they don't use taximeter, you can negotiate a one day fee with drivers. The city tour was incredible. Lot of spots and great city architecture.
