Hi there Hive family,
Today I would like to share my Kom Peak climb in old mountain. This time, it was supposed to be a chill, meaning pleasant and easy hike for us. This is why we also took girls with us who were not experienced especially in the snow. Normally I would go only with experienced guys because my climbs are not easy and certainly not very safe.
Because of the winter though, we ran into other unpredicted troubles even before our start. In the northern part the Balkan terrain is dotted with steep turns and big denivelations. This coupled with very thick and long fog contributed to driving madness. I could only see like 1 meter max in front of the car and this lasted for good 40 km. Half of those were in our ascend to the mountain which made it even more dangerous. There were a lot of chasms as usual when we were going higher and higher. At the end, the tip of the iceberg was the black ice and a frozen section that we did not expect. We tried to just overcome it but failed. Luckily the car could back down to a safe place and we started our hike a little bit further away from the hut.
This is our first picture. We overcome the thick fog and the weather in the higher vicinities had nothing to do with the one in the city.
This is us. The girls were happy to have finally reached some descent weather conditions. They were very scared in the fog down and for a reason.
After about half an hour walking we were close to the hut of Kom.
We were surronded by lively forest.
In my country old mountain is so big, it stretches from our most western part to our most eastern part. There is even a route and Kom is actually the beginning. The end is Cape Emine which is a headland located at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. People could undergo this route by foot or with bicycle. Some people have done feats like going the whole route for only 4 days by foot. Having less than 2 days of sleep per day. The whole lenght is 650 km. The sign on the image translates as International Mountain Itinerary of Friendship.
We have quite a few other signs with famous quotes from people who have done a lot for promoting and helping the Bulgarian nature and mountain regions.
This sign says: I do not use the word "impossible". For me "impossible" means "I don't want".
We went to the higher altitudes where the mountain grew so much prettier.
The fog was still down there and it is not going to go away anytime soon.
We finally reached the Peak Kom.
Here I take pictures from all sides of the peak. The views are amazing and quite different.
The weather was changing as I was walking from end to end.
Finally, we were down just as the night was gathering. We had to endure once more the thick fog but this time in pitch dark. A little bit slower, we were able to safely return back home.
Thank you for visiting my blog :)
I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.
