Recently, my friends and I made a wonderful hike in the Central Balkans to the Vasil Levski hut. Today I will tell you about it and the beautiful places we passed through to get to the hut.
Our starting point was the town of Karlovo, where we left our cars.
We took our backpacks on our backs and set off on a two-day hike.
The beginning of the trail was steep.
We walked for about an hour and a half on a trail with such a steep slope, and around us impressive views of the Stara Planina Mountains were revealed.
We reached the first fountain, which unfortunately wasn't working. Next to it there was a place to rest and educational signs.
Tree roots formed interesting shapes.
We found plants blooming in unusual places and pine cones in strange shapes.
We even found a martenitchka with Pijo and Penda on the road.
Unique panoramic views were revealed throughout the entire journey.
When we passed around Stara Reka, we admired the beautiful shapes that the river had formed in the rocks.
Rock with the inscription: "Welcome to the embrace of nature".
Once we reached this site, the trail suddenly became flat and we were already walking through the forest.
The walk in the reserve is exciting. We cross bridges and the rocks around the river are beautiful.
From the information boards we learn that the Stara Reka Reserve was declared as such in 1981. The area on which it is located is 19.7 sq. km. The reserve is among the first in terms of the number of rare plant species.
We reached another fountain from which we poured ourselves some clean mountain water.
We reached the first hut on our way - it was the Hubavets hut.
The hut is a massive two-story building. Unfortunately, it is not being managed by anyone at the moment.
The building was unlocked and we entered.
The dining room had tables and benches arranged. It smelled of burnt wood. The other rooms were locked.
In the review notebook someone had written:
It's nice to have a place to rest on your way. Thank you.
Stefan and Stoyana
We continued on our way, and the views of the forest around us were breathtaking.
We reached a place where Bear is buried.
Soon after, we reached the Balkan Roses hut.
We had planned to eat lunch at this hut, but it turned out that there was nothing cooked, so we moved on.
The road alternated with flat paths and steep sections, and soon we reached our final destination - Vasil Levski hut.
The hut awaited us with hospitable hosts, clean rooms, and delicious food.
The hut was built in 1925 and is the first hut in the Stara Planina Mountains. It is a two-story building, but there are also bungalows.

We spent a wonderful evening there and in the morning we had breakfast with fried sandwiches and set off on a new journey that I will tell you about soon.
Thank you for stopping by!
