Hoy les comparto mi visita a la casa natal de Andrés Eloy Blanco, que también funciona como museo. Exhibe muebles, textos y utensilios que pertenecieron a la familia de este poeta, nacido en Cumaná. La casa se ubica en la calle Sucre, junto a la Plaza Bolívar y el edificio del Gobierno del Estado Sucre. Su diseño corresponde a las mansiones tradicionales de la época, cuyas características principales incluían un vestíbulo, dos pasillos, un jardín central o área de cultivo y, típicamente, la cocina en la parte trasera. Esta casa funciona como museo tras ser restaurada por una fundación y recibir donaciones de familiares y amigos del poeta, entre otros, para albergar el mobiliario que alguna vez perteneció a su familia.
En la fachada, se observa la identificación que indica que pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Museos y una escultura del poeta sentado en un banco leyendo. En la parte posterior, se exhibe el nombre de la casa: "Casa Nacimiento". La casa es azul y tiene tres ventanas: una a la derecha, dos a la izquierda y la puerta principal, que es negra con dos hojas. Al entrar, se aprecian varios cuadros que aluden a la vida del poeta. Today I'm sharing my visit to the birthplace of Andrés Eloy Blanco, which is also a museum. It displays furniture, texts, and utensils that belonged to the family of this poet, born in Cumaná. The house is located on Sucre Street, next to Bolívar Square and the Sucre State Government building. Its design corresponds to the traditional mansions of the contemporary era, whose main characteristics included an entrance hall, two hallways, a central garden or cultivation area, and, typically, the kitchen at the rear. This house functions as a museum after being restored by a foundation and receiving donations from the poet's family and friends, among others, to house the furniture that once belonged to the poet's family.
On the facade, we see the identification indicating it belongs to the National Museum System and a sculpture of the poet sitting on a bench reading. At the back, the name of the house, "Casa Nacimiento" (Birthplace), is displayed. The house is blue and has three windows: one on the right, two on the left, and the main door, which is black with two leaves. Upon entering, there are several paintings alluding to the poet's life. Next, we have the living room with furniture and paintings, and we can observe the roof structure made of guagua wood, a common plant in this area and a material frequently used for houses of this era. Finally, there is access to an office and its decorations.
Desde la entrada, a la izquierda, se encuentra la biblioteca y un hermoso piano marrón. Sobre él, una lámpara de araña de cinco brazos, sillas, un cuadro y un premio que recibió el poeta. Junto a la biblioteca hay algunos muebles rojos con una mesa y varios libros, la mayoría de los cuales tratan sobre la vida y obra de Andrés Eloy Blanco. Al salir de la biblioteca y tomar el pasillo lateral, nos dirigimos hacia los dormitorios. Estos destacan por su mobiliario acorde a la época: un baúl, sillones de cuero, vitrinas, una especie de armario antiguo, cuadros que decoran las paredes, mesitas de noche y algunas fotos familiares, todas en blanco y negro. Es importante recordar que en aquella época no existían las cámaras ni la tecnología avanzada de la que disponemos hoy en día.
Frente a uno de los dormitorios hay una pequeña exposición de libros y premios del museo de la casa. A continuación, vemos el despacho, con una escultura del poeta sentado y un curioso teléfono. Creo que es la primera vez que veo un teléfono de este tipo; es marrón y los diales están en el frontal. Las sillas del despacho son de cuero negro con reposabrazos de madera. Los dormitorios tienen lavabos y espejos, y también vemos las camas. Estas destacan por su elaborada ornamentación en el cabecero y el piecero; son una especie de cuna que lleva allí varios años. El suelo, al igual que en la biblioteca y la sala del piano, es de cerámica color ladrillo. Además, una nueva vista de la oficina revela el escritorio trapezoidal, las sillas y varios cuadros que decoran la pared. En una esquina, destaca una silla por su diseño. El espejo o tocador tiene un hermoso diseño; está hecho de caoba y decorado con flores. La cama principal es negra con pedestales en los cuatro lados, y la sábana es de punto blanco. Tanto la sábana como la funda de almohada están completamente tejidas a mano. También se aprecian grandes ventanas y puertas negras. En la oficina, observamos el mobiliario, los cuadros y los grandes ventanales. Estas se ubicaban generalmente a 30 cm del suelo, lo que permitía... La cama principal es negra con columnas talladas que la sostienen, permitiendo la circulación de luz y aire. Generalmente, se colocaban mosquiteros sobre estas columnas para proteger a las personas de las picaduras de insectos.
Moving from the entrance to the left, you'll find the library and a beautiful brown piano. Above it sits a five-candle chandelier, chairs, a painting, and an award the poet received. Next to the library are some red furniture pieces with a table and several books, most of which refer to the life and work of Andrés Eloy Blanco. The lamp has a lovely design, and you can see the windows. The floor is ceramic, and the chairs have various designs. You can also see a cross in a painting; this is a gift from the Mexican government to the illustrious poet from Cumaná. Looking around this room, you see the piano again, the chairs, and the window from which you can see part of Bolívar Square and the abundant vegetation there.
Upon leaving the library and taking the side corridor, we proceed towards the bedrooms. These are notable for their period-appropriate furnishings: a trunk, leather chairs, display cases, a kind of antique closet, paintings decorating the walls, nightstands, and some family photos, all in black and white. It's important to remember that at that time there were no cameras or the advanced technology we have now.
In front of one of the bedrooms is a small display of books and awards from the house museum. Next, we have a view of the office with a sculpture of the poet seated and a curious telephone. I think it's the first time I've seen this type of telephone; it's brown, and the dials are located on the front. The office chairs are black leather with wooden armrests. The bedrooms have sinks and mirrors, and we also see the beds. The beds are notable for their detailed ornamentation on the headboard and footboard; they are a kind of crib-style bed that has been around for several years. The floor, like in the library and the piano room, is brick-colored ceramic.
Furthermore, a new view of the office reveals the trapezoidal desk, chairs, and several paintings decorating the wall. In the corner, there is a chair that stands out for its design. These pieces of furniture are for display only, hence the red ribbons indicating that they are not to be sat on, as they are for exhibition purposes only. By not being handled, the ribbons extend, thus preserving them better. In the corner of the office, there is a striking wooden sculpture and several chairs placed against the wall. In the hallway in front of this office, there are several photos of Andrés Eloy, his wife, and his children, as well as several photographs representing the Blanco family tree. The mirror or vanity has a beautiful design; it is made of mahogany and adorned with flowers. The main bed is black with pedestals on all four sides, and the sheet is woven in white. Both the sheet and the pillowcase are completely hand-knitted. Large black windows and doors are also visible. In the office, we observe the furniture, the paintings, and the large windows. These were typically positioned 30 cm from the floor, which allowed for... The main bed is black with carved columns that support it, allowing light and air to circulate. Mosquito nets were usually placed on these columns to protect people from insect bites.
Tras finalizar mi recorrido por las habitaciones y oficinas, me dirigí al otro pasillo. Allí encontré varios cuadros amarillos y fotografías que representaban al poeta junto a diversos presidentes, ministros y otras personalidades. El techo de esta zona, al igual que el de la entrada, también está revestido de madera y cuenta con una hermosa y sencilla lámpara semicircular. En el centro hay un jardín y una escultura de Andrés Eloy.
Este jardín cuenta con vides y plantas ornamentales de flores coloridas. También se aprecian el tejado, cubierto de tejas, y las columnas y vigas, en su mayoría de madera. En este pasillo hay varias sillas, una galería fotográfica y una vista detallada de las columnas que sostienen el techo. El suelo conserva el mismo diseño de baldosas cerámicas. La lámpara de esta zona tiene un diseño diferente: es negra. Al final de este pasillo se encuentra otra biblioteca, con libros donados durante el centenario del nacimiento del poeta. A continuación, se divisa el pequeño jardín y las macetas. Al fondo, la vid trepa por una serie de vigas. Entre las imágenes que adornan la pared se encuentran homenajes al poeta y representaciones de su vida como diplomático. The lamp in this area has a different design; it is black. At the end of this hallway is another library, comprised of books donated during the centenary of the poet's birth. Next, we have a view of the small garden and the potted plants. The grapevine is at the back, climbing a series of beams. Among the pictures on the wall are tributes to the poet and depictions of his life as a diplomat. The library also has a striking clock, tables, and kitchen utensils from the period, with unique designs because they were made specifically for this family. The tour of this house museum is a journey through the history of contemporary Venezuela and the life of Andrés Eloy Blanco, a poet known for his outstanding work as a writer, Minister of Education, and diplomat for Venezuela.
