The San Juan de Macarapana River is a beautiful tourist spot that’s very popular with locals and visitors alike. It’s just a 20-minute drive away, and you can get there by car or by bus from the 4 Esquinas area in Cumaná. The fare is 200 Bfs /0.3$.

We drove there in our own car and it only took 20 minutes. The road is in good condition; we enjoyed the wooded area, breathing in the fresh air, as this region is considered the “lung” of Sucre state. There are several rest stops where you can park, as well as many concrete huts with blue-painted benches bearing the names of trees and fruits; you just need to contribute 2 bolivianos toward their upkeep. We stayed at the hut called Mango. In addition to having a fire pit made of concrete and stones, it has a grill and firewood for preparing your food; in this case, we had a barbecue.

The river is characterized by numerous rocks of various sizes; its waters are home to fish such as guaraguaras and shrimp. At this time of year, we can see that the river is dry; soon the rains will come and the water will rise, making it a great time to swim in the fresh waters of the San Juan River, which flows through the entire parish.

After enjoying a wonderful day surrounded by nature and delicious food, we headed home as evening fell. A light rain began to fall, which made the atmosphere even more pleasant and refreshing. That’s all for now, my fellow adventurers.
