A Little History Behind Cebu Ocean Park. Before it became a sought-after destination, it was a major tourism project developed by Cebu Sealife Park Inc., the same group behind Manila Ocean Park. It officially opened its doors to the public in August 2019. It was built with a mission to introduce marine environmental education to the Visayas region helping more people appreciate and protect ocean life without having to travel far. Cebu Ocean Park have underwater animals but a wider variety of land creatures too. It's considered the largest in the country because the park occupies around 10,000 square meters of land within the SM Seaside City Cebu complex. At least 2,000 square meters bigger than the equally famous Manila Ocean Park, and also it can accommodate more than two thousand people at any given time. Today, facility continued caring for the animals , improving exhibits and educating guests while supporting marine conservation and local tourism.
Visiting Cebu Ocean Park has been on my bucket list. It’s so convenient since it’s just beside SM Seaside a simple jeep or taxi ride away. Upon entering, the lively atmosphere immediately gave me that “weekend escape” feeling. Children laughing, adults taking photos everyone seemed ready for a fun encounter with nature. The place is wide, clean and also comfortable to walk around. The staff are accommodating and the flow of the attractions is well organized, so you won’t get lost even if it’s your first time.Cebu Ocean Park entrance fees are around ₱650 for weekdays and ₱800 for weekends/holidays with online promos, but walk-in rates are higher (around ₱700-900), with discounts for seniors/PWDs and free entry for kids under 2 feet tall; prices can vary slightly by promotion, so checking their official site for current online deals is best for savings.
Jungle Trek
The first attraction that you will see when you enter the Cebu Ocean Park is the Jungle Trek. This section features species that thrive in rivers, lakes and other fresh bodies of water. This section has an outdoor set-up and is a perfect spot for photographs and also videos.
Creepy Critters
The next section has an indoor set-up that features various species of reptiles. Here, v visitors can get a close look at the animals as the glass cages are generally small.
Lorries Loft
On the second floor, you will find the Lorries Loft. The Lorries Loft features different species of birds. The animals are housed in a huge ‘outdoor’ dome where they can freely fly and move around. If you’re lucky, you can even move very close to some of them.
Seven Seas
After a fun experience with the birds, guests can proceed to the third floor for the next section which is called the Seven Seas. The Seven Seas section features colorful corals as well as species of fish that thrive in this awesome ecosystem. I was blown away by the variety of species from vibrant reef fish to graceful stingrays, from corals to jellyfish that glow like floating stars. Every zone had its own story and science facts that made me appreciate each creature more. I didn’t expect to spend so much time watching the fish swim but honestly, observing them brought such peace and joy.
The Oceanarium Tunnel
If there’s one place that will capture your heart, it’s the Oceanarium Tunnel. Walking through a giant glass walkway while sharks, rays and schools of fish glide above you is a magical moment.
The oceanarium features long tunnels as well as a central viewing section that offers a 360-degree view of the underwater world. It’s almost like entering the ocean without getting wet!
Main Tank Gallery
After leaving the oceanarium, visitors will find the Main Tank Gallery. The tank is more than 7 meters deep and features a sunken ship as well as various species of deep-sea creatures. On special days and occasions, the gallery can transform into a special dining or events area.
Gift Shop
And finally, the last section to visit is the Gift Shop which, like most parks and tourist destinations, doubles as the exit. The shop features cute and fun souvenir items, gifts, toys and more!
