Last November, my friend Patricia came to join me on a little roadtrip through the south of Italy. I decided to take her to Otranto, a small city in the south of Italy. The city was located next to the sea, and it was the perfect place for a couple of nights as Patricia really loves the sea. We found a beautiful spot to park on the app Park4Night, just out of the city, next to the ocean. The city was just a few minutes' walk away from our home on wheels, so that was just perfect + we woke up every morning with a beautiful ocean view and a coffee at the beach.
This is the spot we found in the app Park4Night, one of the apps I often use to find a place to park and sleep. They aren't always this pretty though
And this is the little beach next to the van. Maybe not the most beautiful but I really loved its rough looks. We went in this direction for a walk as well, not to the direction of the city but to the other direction. It felt really good to just walk out of the van into the nature, see the birds fly over the sea, while lizards are just sunbathing on the rocks
A stroll to the town
To walk to the town, we had to follow the dirt road for some minutes before we passed by the harbour. The seawater was very clear, the weather was sunny. It was a good day and it felt really nice to have my good friend with me for some silly talks while strolling along the harbour talking about which boat we would pick among many other conversations.
The next place we passed by the Torre Matta, the watchtower from Otranto. This place definitely gave Otranto some good old Italian historical vibes, as most Italian places have, but every city is unique in its own way.
From up here, we had a nice overview of the ocean and the city. I actually took the pictures of the harbour from here since the view is pretty nice from here.
To go to the beach we wanted to visit, we had to walk through the shopping streets. There was almost nobody out there as it is the off season. I have no clue where the locals are but not here at least.
The city center, I took a picture of this clothingstore since I believe these kinds of ceilings are really beautiful and unique, although they seem to be very common here in Italy. Anyway, they impress me
We walked a bit through the empty streets towards the beach, which was supposed to be really beautiful with blue water, and it was! The beach was small but really nice and the water was so clear! In Holland, the water is not clear at all, and I have never seen water as clear and beautiful as this in Europe. I feel like I really want to return to this corner of Europe next September, when the water is still warm enough to swim but the tourists are already gone. The world keeps surprising me with its beautiful places. I am very thankful that having a van gives me the opportunity to work, explore and travel to these kinds of places.
Thanks for passing by, I hope you liked my little blog about Otranto!

Sascha
