In the heart of the France Ardèche region, you can find an authentic French Village called Thueyts, The traditional houses are built out of rocks and truly unique. The streets are quiet and not flooded with tourists. Thueyts is a beautiful village to visit for a day or two.
Let's visit Thueyts, a characteristic French village in the heart of the Ardèche
Last week I left Holland with my little campervan and I decided that the Ardèche would be the first area I wanted to visit and then I happened to stumble upon Thueyts. When I saw the pictures, I did not have to think twice!
On the pictures above you can see the Castle of Thueyts, called Chateau de Blou, which is dating from the 12th century.
Thueyts has a special parking space for motorhomes which is free of charge and very peaceful to spend some time. Within a few minutes walking, you will find yourself in the heart of the village. You can also walk down to the river or into the mountains. Thueyts might be a beautiful village but its surrounding nature is at least as beautiful.
In the heart of the village you can find the Medieval Church called Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste. The church is built in the same style as most of the houses of the old village and dates from the 12th century.
These colorful windows will not go unnoticed when you bring a visit to the inside of the church. And if I may say it myself, I took a pretty good shot of the windows!
Thueyts has a very cute second church located on the top of a little hill at the edge of the village. The church is surrounded by greens and flowers.
But let's not forget the nature of Thueyts! The village is located next to the river and it is definitely worth it to go for a walk here.
When you walk down to the river surrounded by beautiful nature. If you turn to the right after crossing the bridge you will even find this small waterfall
Le Pont du Diable (The devil's bridge) is a stone bridge over the river. Looking at it makes me wonder how they have built it. The view over the bridge is beautiful and you can swim in the river below. However, Some girl told me that every year, people try to jump from the bridge and don't survive. Just be careful!
Le pont du Diable is the place to go for a swim. The water is very cold right now in early June, but it makes it extra refreshing on a hot day.
See you next time!

Sascha
