Yeah, Spring is finally here! After a long, miserable winter and a cold start of spring, the sun slowly starts shining, The birds are chirping happily and making their nests and the fields start to color all colors of the rainbow. It is flower season in Holland. The countryside is flooded with fields of colorful flowers for us to explore!
The first blooms of the Dutch spring: The hyacinths are blooming again!
It was a beautiful day when I took the bike out to search for some flower fields near my hometown. The flowers often grow well on slightly sandy soil, that's why I decided to cycle in the direction of the beach of Callantsoog, which is around 18 kilometers from my house in Holland. As I came nearer to the beach and cycled against the wind, I started to smell a delightful fragrance: Hyacinths. I started smelling them far before I saw them. I knew that if I would cycle further, I would find the fields very soon. I never realized how strong the hyacinths smell before and I was surprised that I could smell them from such a distance. Not much later, I found myself surrounded by gorgeous fields of pink and purple flowers.
The field was made up out of purple and pink hyacinths and further away white hyacinths. The white ones were a bit far away to photograph but the pink ones were obviously my favorites
The fields were bright pink & purple. The fields were as good as you can find here in North-Holland, my province which is famous for the flowers.
Most tourists go to the Famous flower garden near Amsterdam called''the Keukenhof'' instead of visiting the more local fields. There are still enough tourists here, but often Dutch or German tourists. The Germans usually know to find all the good spots in Holland, but other nationalities usually go to the common places, which keeps it nice and quiet.
I took these pictures actually a few weeks ago already, right at the beginning of the flower season when the fields of hyacinths just started blooming. I believe that the hyacinths are much more pretty than the world-famous Dutch tulips. And their scent is simply so good! Those flowers really deserve some more fame! They bloom usually a few weeks before the tulips start to bloom. At the moment of writing this blog, they are not blooming anymore but the area is flooded with colorful tulip fields now which is still a threat to the eye!
Thank you for reading my blog! I hope you enjoyed seeing some colorful photographs from my province in the Netherlands! Would you like to visit Holland in Springtime?

Sascha
