It's been raining here off and on for a couple weeks. I was determined to get out of the house regardless if it was raining or not. Luckily though, the rain stopped around noon. I had my best friend (who is also my 6 year old brother-in-law) with me so I figured we would go walk around town and catch some Pokemons or something. We ended up staying out for 3 hours but what I wanted to talk about today is a little place we discovered.
The Somersworth Riverwalk
Somersworth, New Hampshire USA
The trail runs along the Salmon Falls River.
Salmon Falls River runs through Maine and New Hampshire.
It provides hydroelectric power for Somersworth and other neighboring towns/citys.
The sign has seen better days but the real beauty starts at the entrance of the trail.
Right away it looks like you are about to walk deep into the woods.
You get two choices
- left
OR
- right
We chose to go Right this time. Left looked like it would take you deeper into the woods where as Right you instantly forgot you were in the woods. We saw a lady walking her dog come from that direction when we arrived and it looked a lot more inviting. The river opens up the area a lot and it feels very spacious. I wanted to use Pokemon Go's augemented reality feature and put a Charizard hovering over the clearing of rocks but sadly my phone wasn't getting service so we put it away all together.
This is what it looked like a little closer to the water in that area I showed above.
It's beautiful. We sat down on the rock there and watched the water and took in all that nature had to offer. After being cooped up indoors for days, it felt great.
If anyone can tell me the science behind this that would be cool because I wasn't too sure what was going on with the water. It had a layer of... foam? ontop of it. Sometimes you see pollen ontop of water and it sort of forms like that but it didnt have the same tone pollen has. Maybe it was from all that rain we've been getting? The thing i found weird about it is there was a certain point where it just stopped and the rest of the water was clear. I don't know, All I know is it looked cool so I snapped a few pictures of natures natural art.
This is a close up of another spot further down the trail that opens up like the first area did, except it's bigger. This is the area that the water stops becoming "foamy". It sort of looks like the water is going the opposite way which is preventing the foam from joining with the other side. This rock had a lot of character to it so I used that as my focus for this shot. it is a lot taller then it looks! You can also see the cloudy skys looming over us.
I've been seeing a lot of Hive users who are really into mushrooms so I thought it would be cool to keep an eye out for some. I found these things a little off trail. They look like an animal has taken a few bites out of it. I wish I got some better shots but this is all I got. Would it be more helpful to take pictures of the top of the cap or underneath? I am a mushroom newb. It's interesting tho! Where do people even find information about mushrooms? Like If I wanted to find out what that is. Is there an app? lol
Last but not least on this journey was a very interesting Garter snake. He was casually hanging out under some plants off trail. I wouldn't have seen him if I wasn't actively looking around. We actually walked past it first and I didn't notice until coming back on the trail. Back when I was a child I would catch snakes and play with them but I am a lot less fearless in my older age and honestly I didn't want to disturb him. I could already tell I was making it nervous trying to take a few pictures with my crappy phone.
(Yes, that is a shiny Eevee as my buddy)
Overall I had a great time and would visit the Riverwalk again. Maybe this time we can explore the left path :) It's funny how something like Pokemon Go can lead you to places you would have never gone! We saw the pokestop of it on the map and thought it looked interesting so we set off to check it out. We both had a blast and I was very impressed his little 6 year old legs let him walk around with me as long as he did. Didn't complain once! Haha. We saw a few people fishing further down the trail but we didn't go down that far and by the time we were coming back another family had set up their fishing equipment on the rocks so it is a popular activity in that area. Now I know a cool fishing spot to go.
