[ESP-ING] Visiting San Mateo Square

He pasado muchas veces por San Mateo y nunca había ido a la plaza de San Mateo, y es que pasar por allí no implica que uno entre donde está la plaza Bolívar, porque la carretera nacial o principal esta por otra vía, así que solo he pasado por esa carretera varias veces y nunca me había parado un momento para ir a conocerla pues siempre íbamos de afán.

Mi esposo y yo fuimos a ver esta plaza y me trajo recuerdos muy bonitos de una plaza en Trujillo, de esas plazas bonitas, al llegar nos estacionamos cerca de una heladería y de verdad siempre una plaza debe haber una heladería, ventas de comida, esta heladería se veía muy bonita y nueva me gusta que alrededor de las plazas siempre tengan algunos que otros comercios que inviten a Los visitantes a disfrutar un poco dentro de la plaza, degustando algo.

Esta es una de las plazas que he visto que está muy limpia y cuidada, para mí una de las mejores plazas, todas han estado limpias pero esta su piso brilla, se nota que la mantienen, además hay personas que cuidan de la plaza de que los niños, adultos y jóvenes no dañen sus espacios, de eso me puede dar cuenta al estar allí sentada, había una señora pendiente y otros señores también que trabajan allí todo el día.

Los bancos de esta Plaza son de cemento y se nota que tiene un estilo moderno esta Plaza seguro estuvo en reconstrucción hace poco tiempo porque se nota que sus espacios están muy cuidados además tiene lámparas modernas y también faroles antiguos que le dan una especie de modernidad y a la vez algo de antigüedad.

En el centro de la plaza hay una estatua de Simón Bolívar mirando hacia el norte, tiene una forma circular en el centro muy amplia y además el suelo que es de granito tiene una forma de estrella muy grande y esta misma forma de estrella da las salidas de algunas caminerías de la plaza, a un lado está como un anfiteatro donde habían un colegio haciendo un acto era como una especie de concha acústica grande.

Por supuesto que esta Plaza también tiene una iglesia, la cual se construyó el 30 de noviembre de 1920, con la ayuda de todos los pobladores de aquel entonces, la iglesia San Mateo Apóstol tuvo una recuperación en el año 2021, este templo dicen que custodia a la virgen de Belén, por lo que es una de sus reliquias,, está iglesia reprewnta el casco colonial de la época , me gusto mucho como esta pintada, y los toques dorados de su columnas, me encanta que la calle este cerrada frente a la plaza, y esto lo convierte en un pequeño paseo, imagino que de noche se debe ver hermoso con las luces, y las ventanas coloniales muy cerca de este pequeño paseo.

A otro lado de la plaza está un colegio llamado nuestra señora de Belén que es grande y tienen afuara unos asientos para los estudiantes que tambien embellecen el lugar, la calle cerrada junto a la plza hace que se vea mucho mejor, allí en la plaza hay unas banderas hizadas que representan el estado Aragua, la ciudad de San Mateo y Venezuela, se ouede divisar unas montañas que se ven al fondo de la plaza que uno puede sentir la naturaleza, me encantó esta visita la pasé genial.

I’ve driven through San Mateo many times but had never been to San Mateo Square. The thing is, just passing through doesn’t mean you end up at Bolívar Square, because the main highway runs along a different route. So I’ve only driven along that highway several times and had never stopped for a moment to check it out, since we were always in a hurry.

My husband and I went to see this plaza, and it brought back very fond memories of a plaza in Trujillo—one of those beautiful plazas. When we arrived, we parked near an ice cream shop, and honestly, every plaza should have an ice cream shop and food stalls. this ice cream shop looked very nice and new; I like that around the plazas there are always a few shops that invite visitors to enjoy themselves a bit within the plaza, sampling something.

This is one of the squares I’ve seen that’s very clean and well-maintained; for me, it’s one of the best. All of them have been clean, but the pavement here shines—you can tell it’s well-maintained. There are also people who look after the square to make sure children, adults, and young people don’t damage the area. I could see that just by sitting there; there was a woman keeping an eye on things, and other men who work there all day.

The benches in this plaza are made of concrete, and you can tell it has a modern style. This plaza must have been recently renovated because you can see that its spaces are very well-maintained. It also has modern lamps and antique streetlights that give it a sense of modernity and, at the same time, a touch of antiquity.

In the center of the plaza there is a statue of Simón Bolívar facing north; it has a very wide circular base, and the granite floor is shaped like a very large star. This star shape marks the entrances to some of the plaza’s walkways. On one side there is an amphitheater-like area where a school was holding an event; it was like a large acoustic shell.

Of course, this plaza also has a church, which was built on November 30, 1920, with the help of all the townspeople at the time. The Church of St. Matthew the Apostle underwent restoration in 2021; it is said that this church houses the Virgin of Bethlehem, making her one of its relics. This church represents the colonial architecture of the era. I really liked how it’s painted and the golden accents on its columns. I love that the street is closed off in front of the plaza, turning it into a small promenade. I imagine it must look beautiful at night with the lights and the colonial windows right next to this little walkway.

On the other side of the square is a school called Nuestra Señora de Belén, which is large and has outdoor seating for students that also adds to the beauty of the place; the closed-off street next to the square makes it look much nicer. In the square, there are flags flying that represent the state of Aragua, the city of San Mateo, and Venezuela. You can see some mountains in the background of the square, and you can really feel nature there. I loved this visit; I had a great time.
