Hey travelers,
Ban Chang is located at the Eastcoast of Thailand, 200km Southeast from Bangkok and 35km south of Pattaya. It´s part of the Rayong province, the richest province in Thailand, rich because there is the industrial complex Matthaput located, a center of the offshore oil industry.
That´s why many foreigners living there, for work but also for retirement.
The district is divided into three sub-districts , which are further subdivided into 22 villages. Ban Chang is a town and covers parts of the tambon Ban Chang and Phla. Samnak Thon is a township which covers parts of tambon Samnak Thon. There are a further three tambon administrative organizations (TAO) responsible for non-municipal areas.
There are three nice beaches, Phala, Payun and Nam Rin beach. All three are very well maintained and are almost 10km long. Near the beaches there are various shops for bathing accessories, clothing and of course some very good Thai restaurants. The water is usually clean, but depending on the current, it can be influenced by the nearby industrial area of Mattaput.
Phayun Beach is not the busiest of beaches. This is one great thing in its favour for those seeking a bit of peace and quiet away from work. Phayun Beach is not the busiest of beaches – not even at weekend. This is one great thing in its favour for those seeking a bit of peace and quiet away from the humdrum of work.It is a pleasant enough beach to visit for other reasons, with a few photo opportunities, and the chance to see a fishing community at work, and some play. The street that leads to the beach from Sukhumvit Road, conveniently splits the beach into two different segments. Along to the left – heading east back towards the distant Map ta Put Industrial plants, is a pleasant stretch of white sand, that terminates in a rock breakwater.
At this end of the beach there is a Chinese Temple – well maintained and worth a look with camera at the ready. Beyond this, there is a rather messy sliver of sand for a couple of hundred meters that is still actually part of Phayun Beach, but for obvious reasons tend to get ignored by the locals and whatever visitors happen to find it.
Hope you enjoyed the walk around the Ban Chang beaches, btw, Ban Chang was my first destination in Thailand, I lived there for 6 years.
Have a great day
Tom🤙
