I was feeling really tired, so as I often do I made a big cup of hot coffee. I've noticed that as soon as I drink coffee, along with becoming active I start to think a lot. Today, my mind wandered off to my very first time taking coffee. It's a funny story so I'm sharing it here 😁.
I was only 6 or so, not really sure of the age, but that's not important. At that time like most kids I was a rebel. I enjoyed being mischievous. My favorite activities were specifically what I was told not to do. And I had that innocent apologetic face that seemed to always get me out of trouble.
When making a cup of tea my mum restricted us to a maximum of three tablespoons of milk and milo (a brand of beverage). As the boss that I am, I had to have more. So when my mum was not looking I went over to where the containers of the milk and the milo were kept and threw a few spoons of milo and milk into my mouth.
"What's the point of adding water when there's saliva? Besides, I'll drink lots of water and make the tea in my stomach" I thought
This became a regular thing for me, whenever no one was looking I'd sneak into the kitchen and take some milk and milo.
One very fateful day I came back from school, changed from my school uniform into house wear, and snuck into the kitchen when my mom was in her room resting. We usually buy refills and pour them into transparent containers. So I went to the cupboard, stretched and brought down two containers, one with milk and one with milo. I opened the container with milk, and put a spoonful in my mouth. Then I closed it and put it back. I picked up the one with milo
"it looks darker than usual. It's probably just a different brand" I thought
I opened and fetched a heaped spoon full (I like milo a lot). The second it landed in my mouth, I hurled it back out with a loud scream, all of a sudden I barfed all over the floor.
It was like poison in my mouth. I ran to the sink and began rinsing my mouth. It was then my mom walked in.
Surprisingly she didn't punish me (probably the face 🥺), but from that day she started keeping the beverages in her room. I eventually asked her what that was and she told me it was coffee. From that day I hated coffee, until I grew older and realized It wasn't so bad as long as you weren't eating it in powdered form. And also I stopped licking milk and milo... Without first making sure it was actually milk and milo 😉.
